Haven't heard anything yet . . . I have a feeling that the gold winner has either already been notified or that they didn't select a gold winner this year. There's still hope for a silver award, though!

Why do they sometimes not pick a gold winner? Or sometimes have only a gold winner and nobody else?

Push is a publishing company; they're not gonna pick a gold winner that doesn't fit their imprint or they think won't sell well. So if nothing fits, they just don't pick one. At least, that's my cynical opinion! Anyway, if you look at Scholastic's website you can see that in past years there were sometimes only silver winners.

but remember on the category listings it says that the novel winner will be notified in MAY it doesn't specifically say which day, and just like vegangirl was notified May 1st last year that doesn't mean it is the same for this year. Wasn't the celebration in New York city last year on June 8th and this year it's June 14-15, doesn't that mean that the dates have changed this time around?

That's a good point. I was thinking of calling Scholastic and asking whether they've picked the novel winners yet, since they seem to ignore all forms of e-mail communication. Wouldn't it be a lot easier for both them and us if Scholastic simply posted a list of the winners online? Before June and everyone's been waiting frantically for months, I mean.

Plus, I think it said in the rules that only the GOLD novel winner would be notified. What about silver winners? Are they just left, their poor little fingers without nails because they've chewed them all off???

I have found a loophole. Pshaw gold winners. Silver forever.

I still haven't received the survey email...has everyone been notified for nationals? I didn't receive the regional notification until the end of April, when I was supposed to be notified in March.

apparently they're lagging this year, but i saw a manifest of the writing winners, so i'd imagine they've notified all of them. i'm not too sure about the art categories.

I haven't heard a single thing about the novel winners yet, gold or silver. The submission form said only that the novel gold winner would be notified in May, without mentioning the silver winners or a general timeframe. I wish somebody at Scholastic would respond to one of my e-mails . . . it's really annoying for all of us here to have to wait so long without knowing!

Well, I have some good news and bad news . . . the good news is, Push sent out notifications for both winners and losers. The bad news? I got my rejection letter today. So if you entered the novel category, you should find out either way really soon.

They did mention that they got HUNDREDS of submissions this year, so I guess us losers shouldn't feel too bad. It still sucks, though!

It said:

"Dear ----,

Thank you for submitting your novel to the PUSH Novel Contest. We had hundreds of entries this year, and found it very hard to choose the award winners. Although your novel didn't win, we were impressed with what you've accomplished already, and really want to encourage you to continue with your writing. The best way to grow as a writer is to keep writing and writing and writing -- keep following the words wherever they take you. You definitely have talent that will develop as you give it more effort, time, and attention. Continue to challenge yourslf. From what we've read so far, we suspect it will be worth it."

The letter went on to just mention how PUSH is an imprint of Scholastic that looks for new voices, etc., etc., and that details of the next contest will be posted in the fall on their website (www.thisispush.com) and Scholastic's. I did e-mail PUSH directly, so I don't know if they sent this letter as a response to that or if everyone who submitted and lost recieves it. At any rate, I think everyone will know one way or the other very soon.
