| Finding a Job
I want to get an after school/weekend job, since I need some money. I've never had a regular high school kid job before, and I'm not really sure how to go about looking for one. How do you guys go about looking for a job? Do you just go walk around and look for "Help Wanted" signs? Apply online? Classified?
Thanks!

If I knew I would have a job now too. I have been looking for 2 years now and have been unable to find a job. All the white preppy girls and guys get the jobs in my small town area. Even the white regular guys complain about it let alone any minorities having a job. In my whole time living in my area there has been only about 5 minorities I have seen working in about the 10+ stores in my area. Good Luck.

Applying online has never worked for me.

i'd go to places you regularly go to. For example, I'm like bffs with my teen librarian, so I asked her for a job-can you say $8/hr for sitting and reading books? heeeck yeah.

I live in the Bay Area, California so there are tons of places and not too much discrimination against minorities.
Is it ok if I ask for job applications where there are no "Help Wanted" signs? Would that be rude, or is it conventional?

Just walk around with copies of your resume. Doesn't matter if there's no "help wanted" sign. Just go in, ask for the manager, tell him/her that you're looking for a part time job and leave a resume. I know it sounds intimidating but once you get started it's not bad. Good luck!

use your hook-ups. i'm assuming you have some friends with jobs...ask around to see who's hiring and who's not. My friend just got me a job at quiznos, and earlier in the holiday season my other friend got me a job at a department store

What should I include on my "resume"? Do they only care about your work experience? Do they look at grades, ECs, etc.?

yeah, going into a bunch of places and filling out applications is what you really have to do. I went into about 12 places in 3 different towns a couple months ago. I only ended up with one offer, but a couple of the places ended up calling after a couple months.

I'm looking, too. It seems as if jobs are easy to get a grocery stores and places like dunkin donuts, etc. Those places can always use part time help!
