Ooo, this sounds interesting! I went to the website, and I'd like to submit a memoir. I'm working on it right now.

I'm going to try to write a SF or short story too. Is there a winner for each genre?

It says on their website. Out of about 9,000 works, 1,400 make it to nationals.

"More than 75,000 students will accept the challenge to present their best creative work for review by artistic and literary professionals. More than 30,000 teens will be recognized regionally and approximately 1,000 will go on to earn national awards."

Quote:
The most outstanding works of art and writing from each of the affiliate programs are forwarded to New York City to be assessed on a national level. To give you an idea of how many qualify for national level review, panels of professional jurors reviewed more than 7,148 works of art and 1,717 manuscripts to select the 1,400 national award recipients in 2006. Graduating seniors who submit a body of work in the Portfolio Categories—art, photography, general writing or nonfiction—compete for local and national scholarships bestowed by the regional programs, the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers and a network of arts institutes, colleges and universities.
You're right. i misunderstood the numbers.
