| I Don't Think I'm Ready...
As much as I'm so excited to go to college, I really don't think I'm ready to leave home. I feel like I haven't really matured enough to move on in my life. It's not just about leaving home for like months, I can handle that. It's the whole your life will never be the same mentallity. I cried the day I graduated middle school, I'm a kind of person who longs for the past and dreads change.
I'm just so sad that I can't be considered a "kid" anymore. I still get upset I'm older and wish I could go back and do the things I did as a kid.
Granted, I love being able to drive and just go out with my friends all the time, and not have a bed time and being able to go places by myself.
I'm just so scared for all the responsibility, this is going to sound so weird, but I like being young and kind of not responsible for things. I like going on trips with my dad and family and being looked at as the young kid ya know?
This probably makes no sense haha.
Just wondering if anyone else is getting really nervous about moving out...

Yeah, i'm there too!
I think right now I'm more excited than nervous, but it'll definitely be a change. I think you just have to make the best of it and embrace it... you really can shape the experience!
It's weird, you know...sometimes I feel so old and ready to leave. I have a part-time job, I drive, I cook for my family...but then other times, I feel so young. My mom still makes my bed while I'm at school. She packs my lunches, makes me tea when I feel sick... It's going to be different, that's for sure. But I really do think that we ultimate shape our experiences. Once we are at that stage, we'll adapt and we'll be ready!

I feel the exact same way! like i was out with my friends tonight, we went out to dinner and just like drove around, and then I was like this is like college, you get to do whatever you want, i felt so old going out on a SCHOOL NIGHT
and then i came home, and realized I love coming home to my family and stuff, and then watched american idol with them while doing my homework, i just love weeknights when we all watch tv together you know?
ugh. I'm going to miss it so much |

I think this is one of the flaws of our society...we're coddled and held close our whole lives, and then the day after graduation we're pretty much thrown to the lions.
I'm excited, but I'm scared witless too. Glad to know I'm not alone.

Y'all... going to college is NOT like divorcing your family! and besides if you are really not ready to be far away , there is nothing wrong with going to your state university and coming home on weekends.
Relax!!

I can't wait to go to college tbh. It's not that I don't like my parents, I just would like to make my own decisions for once.

@ AC419
Maybe you should consider a gap year, lots of people do it. There's nothing wrong with what you're saying/feeling.

Trust me, I felt/feel the same way. I went to a college that is over a 12-hour drive away from home, and was terrified. I was totally the girl who couldn't even spend the night at a friend's house because I couldn't stand to be away from my family. Now, however, I love being at school and am so glad that I was able to take the leap. Of course, I am still getting anxious about going on a week-long class trip this spring break, but I feel so much more confident that I will live through it than I think I would have been had I stayed as close to home as possible

| College is hardly being thrown to the lions. Especially when parents pay for most of your schooling and expenses while you're there.

^Yeah, except for those of us whose parents are doing the opposite (mine are being quite generous financially, but I have quite a few friends whose parents aren't helping them at all).

"Thrown to the lions" wasn't referring to money but to emotion. Severing the day-to-day relationship with one's parents (physical affection, shared activities etc.) is challenging for many.

I want to be little again too. Even though I'm only in 9th grade, there are so many little kid things that I wish I had done more often. I didn't play enough.

It's scary to know that you won't see your family for half a year.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I was so ready to leave the state and now I want to cling to my mother's leg and never let go. xD Though, I haven't heard back from any schools yet, so we'll see how it goes when I get accepted somewhere.
