How do you rate your school's sex education?

...in health class, that is. Or did you have to learn "everything" from another source?

And lastly, if you find this interesting:

Federal funding of abstinence-only sex education programs debated - Los Angeles Times

Prom season's here, so I'm gathering information about the quality of sex education in high schools for my high school's newspaper. Feel free to post any thoughts.

Don't have Sex ED at my school anymore. It sucks. Try researching the crap yourself...it's a lot scarier when you're alone and see green genitalia on your screen.

Wow.... [the fact that you don't have that program in your school]'s really lame. What state are you from?

We're shown the same PowerPoint from grades, like, 3-9. It stops after that. It's not quite abstinence-only, but it seems aimed at instilling fear. Lots of fun pictures of diseased genitalia.

Last year the whole school was given a really interesting presentation about abstinence. It was cool, and very informative.

The actual sex education is okay, so I've heard (haven't gotten there yet). My health teacher, who has a story for everything, might just have something interesting when it comes to sex education too.

Ours is abstinence only. We also have the slideshow involving an abundance of diseased genitals (lovely). It basically sucks, as illustrated by the high birth rate at my school...

Abstinence only is idiotic. Sex is natural. Why are they preaching for us not to do it when we are legally able? It is the unsecularization of the American Sex Education. It is fine to have sex before you are married if you are safe.

We went wayyy in depth as far as anatomy goes... like down to the cells of the membranes and stuff. It was all very interesting though. And we saw a bunch of pictures of people with STDs. But that was in A&P. We don't have a sex ed class except for health, which is basically like "this is the male thing. this is the female thing. they go together sometimes. when they do, sometimes a baby is created. you are too young for babies so use condoms"

Every school in our district offers sex ed (or "health") and none of them advocate abstinence. They aren't telling us to go out and do it, they just want us to be safe if we do.

My health/sex education ended at mandatory freshman health class. Was anyone else taught the wonders of sex by a 50-something year old lesbian gym teacher?

EDIT: That last phrase sounds really, really weird. Like a weird porno film....

I'd say moderate to good. Our teacher is a bit crazy, and has 8 billion amusing/weird stories for every subject, and the class is a bit of a joke, but definitely not abstinence-only. I remember 9th grade we had these mini-seminar things, and she was rambling on about condoms and dental dams and everyone was a bit surprised.

Ours is pretty good...it definitely depends on the teacher.

My teacher was great...she was definitely not abstinence-oriented. XD In fact, she turned the whole Health unit into Sex Ed.

Seriously...one day we were talking about kidney stones and we ended up talking about how men who have had the stones removed from their genitals aren't as good in bed. O.O

I think my school does a good job with sex ed. We have a mandatory health class, which does not teach abstinence only. We offer free condoms (that are ensured not to have expired) anonymously in the nurse's office (just a bowl anybody can take from). Of course, one of our health teachers was arrested for statutory rape of a student...
