its like this: there are
so many teenagers out
there that could drink
if they wanted to and
not get caught. i know i could.
but how is it worth it? people
aren't going to like you more
if you drink or do drugs. its
not going to make you more
popular, or lose the nerd status
that you might have or whatever.
plus, its against the law, and if you
do get caught, it goes on your record.
anytime you do anything from then on,
like apply to a college or for a job, the
admissions officers or head of personnel
will know that you drank, and you were
stupid enough to get caught, and it will
definitely effect their decision in whether
or not they hire you or accept you or whatever.
its really not worth the risk when grape juice and
coca cola taste better anyway.

| you're only in 9th grade... wait until junior or senior year because kids who start drinking freshmen or early sophomore year are more likely to become alcoholics and to become dependent on alcohol to socialize. | |

| I'm in college and I'm all for drinking here, but not when you're in high school. You're young. Learn how to have clean, sober fun. If you can't do that then your social life will be forever dependent on alcohol. Experiment senior year so you're ready for college, but, my god, do NOT get drunk every week. That's ridiculous, not at all healthy, and very draining. Get a job or something. | |

| It's not up for debate that alcohol is bad; it can be and is bad when used to excess. But in moderation it's a completely different story. Alcohol is used for basically one reason -- it's fun. And everyone knows how ridiculous that sounds, but everyone also knows it's true. However, starting as early as freshman year (and yes, I'm considering this summer to still be your freshman year; you're not suddenly more mature the day after school lets out) is ridiculous. Just WAIT. There is absolutely no reason for you to start drinking yet, and the fact that you're "rebellious by nature" is not one. You may think it makes you cool, your friends may think it makes you cool, but it doesn't. | |

| I feel (and I could be off) like the whole purpose of this post was for her to tell us that she would be drinking this summer with college kids. Good for you, but the fact that you have to ask about this kinda thing shows that you're probably too immature to drink that much. And it's not like I'm advocating/discouraging you from drinking, I'm just saying why would you ask? If you don't have the common sense to think independently about this, then don't do it.
That said, having a few sips/getting to know your limits can't hurt unless you have a family history of drug/alcohol abuse, but don't go overboard cause the college kids won't want to babysit you while you're puking after 1/2 drinks... | |

Also to supplement what sammielue(and someone else who totally owned the thread quite a while back) said, if you want to be rebellious then don't drink. I hear more peers telling me to drink than adults telling me not to, so obviously the current convention is to drink.... | |

You're a 9-10th grade female, plan to get drunk at parties with college students, and don't seem to think twice about potentially being sexually exploited? For all of your As and supposed other talents, you're an idiot who'll completely deserve anything that happens.
If you're not worried about addiction, here's a fun fact: alcohol addictions usually take about 6-9 years to develop in adults, but only 1.5 years in teenagers. Simply put, your brain is still developing and it's particularly vunerable to any crap you give it.
If you ever get caught, you're screwed. Forget the fact that you've excelled so far; an arrest is one of the easiest ways to destroy your college applications.
Basically, you're taking a bunch of different risks. You might get away with it, but you're playing the odds with a great deal of stupid consequences. What is so appealing about getting drunk that you can't find a less dangerous and illegal addiction like caffeine or World of Warcraft?
I'd like to believe that the fact that you bothered to post here constitutes a sign that you're not completely sure about this, but, as others have said, it seems quite clear that you have no intention of changing your mind.

The federal government's definition of a drug:
a. any substance recognized in the official pharmacopoeia or formulary of the nation.
b. any substance intended for use in the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease in humans or other animals.
c. any article, other than food, intended to affect the structure or any function of the body of humans or other animals.
d. any substance intended for use as a component of such a drug, but not a device or a part of a device.
Note definition c. Alcohol is dead ringer for that description, not to mention the fact that it is commonly accepted as the most abused DRUG in the United States.
If it is true that "self-righteous adults" are trying to guilt America's youth for having a tenth of the fun that they had, then nearly every adult in America would have to be a part of this conspiracy. You know what is several magnitudes more probable than a massive generational conspiracy? The possibility that alcohol is actually bad for you.
You are either really bad at defending your own drinking habit or a really bad forum troll. Good job. | |
