CA Model UNs

Okay, so I posted a thread before, but I just got exeter's website and it didn't really help. So every time I google "Model UN" I seriously cannot find anything! Like JSA was way more easier to get started 'cause they had all the contact info on their site.

First of all, it said something about the LA area, thing is I live near SF, about an hour away .. and it's only like you can start one if you're in the Los Angeles area. I'm realllly confused because the high school I was originally supposed to go to has one, and we're completely like 8 hours away from LA. It's really confusing and frustrating me because

1) I'm running for class council
2) TRYING to raise my 5 B's to A's.
3) Dealing/Coping with best friend issues and trying to help my other best friend with her bf probs.
4) applying for this really selective community service club at school AND student life committee.

and the class council/comm service/SLC petitions are due TOMMOROW! and club petitions are due in a week.
AND i'm going to be a senior so I really can't get this started next year. Plus, I need to find a teacher that actually cooperates with overnights cause with JSA that totally didn't go well-- NO teacher could chaperone!

SO PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!

I googled Model Un, and the first result that popped up was the UNA USA website, which has a huge part dedicated to helping kids start Model UN clubs.

Model UN is pretty easy to start as well. I know that there are quite a few high school Model UN clubs in Nor Cal, so you aren't alone in starting one.

However, it looks like you're undergoing a lot of stress right now, so you should think twice about starting Model UN. Being founder (and I assume you want to be president) of an organization like MUN requires a lot of time commitment and patience--especially since it will be a new club. I was one of the co-founders of my school's Model UN, and it definitely takes a while to get a new club up and running in terms of members, guidelines, etc.

Also, back when I did the club, one of our biggest problems was chaperones. Our advisor couldn't chaperone/didn't want to for our conferences, so you'll have to figure that out as well.

Good luck!

I actively participate in MUNs in CA and would have to say that MUN Stanford, UC Berkeley, and UC Davis are relatively good. All you should do is google a prominent universities name + mun and you should find some conferences.

at meetings we generally inform our members about fundraising events, conference events, signing up for conference, position paper due dates, meeting times..... the logistical stuff.

honestly, you seem too busy and stressed to start an MUN at your school right now. it is a LOT more work than other clubs and if you can't keep up with it/let it die a bit, your club won't really gain enough legitimate prestige anyway. MUNs from different schools get really competitive and everyone knows whose MUNs are a joke and whose dominate :]

since it would be your first year, i would keep conferences fairly local. i'm located in so cal and we attend UC berkeley's conference. it is more competitive than others but really fun. high school conferences tend to be less competitive/intimidating.

.. okay, thanks guys!

one of the things on the proposal is .. how would this club benefit our hs community?

and im not quite sure how to answer that.

berkeleys about an hour away from where i live so that should be good.
we go there for speech and debate too.
