Personal

Recently I cried emotionally in front of my parents, I told them that I have given up trying in school. I replied that my GPA was too low (3.6), and the fact that I have no EC's. I dropped to my knees and simply cried with watery tears dripping from my cheek. My goal was a top-tier institution.

sigh. My counselor told me that I have to do insanely good during my junior year to stand a chance against the top schools.

Crying releases the pain held pumping beneath my veins. Crying makes me realize myself in full context.

I share this since I have no friends. Simply none.

aw, don't cry...even if you don't get into a top school you'll still be an awesome smart person. and you'll have less debt to boot.
on that note, if you spend all this time in high school just worrying about getting into college, then you might get into a top college and wonder what you're there for and realize you've missed out on a lot of social opportunities back home...that happened to me. relax and enjoy life a bit! you'll be glad you did.

well actually, i cracked and they put me on leave. it had to do with not having friends in high school and generally being an obsessive overachiever. i would suggest you not follow my path. good luck.

I've been pretty pessimistic about college before, too. I used to think my gpa was killing me and I would get rejected wherever I wanted to go (I'm still a junior).
Undergraduate college is kind of overrated anyways. Even if you don't go to your top choice, any college will provide new opportunity to do well and make friends, etc. The education following undergrad school is more important.

That sucks. But (at least from my perspective) your problem is easy because something will click in your brain soon and you'll realize how insignificant going to a top-25 school is.

I have problems too.

SERIOUSLY. all of you are idiots. every single one of you. Not one person has said that a 3.6 is a spectacular GPA. Ivy League or not, it is a GREAT GPA, something to feel accomplished about. Don't think that it's the end of the world.

GPA isn't everything. Colleges don't want some academic mongrel. Get out of the house, make friends, have fun, do ECs, & enjoy yourself. You might not even want to go to to an Ivy League when application season comes. and omfg, you even have time to significantly up your GPA with junior + 1/2 of senior year. stop worrying.

Sighs... a border line troll, I have not decided yet.

I hope it's not a troll. I feel for this person, with ap exams in a few days I think I'm doomed to failure, so I know how it feels. I'm lucky to have amazing friends, don't worry, it will be okay. You are not alone.

I'm certain there are many other people with 3.6 GPAs who got into top tier schools. If you don't get in, you can always transfer. Just work harder and pick up some ECs and stop crying.

Trolling ftw. I once got a 98% on an exam and I was really really depressed! Common, I wanted 100% :'( I started cutting my veins and then, when I almost finished -- I had a revelation! Live is not easy, I thought > Life is tough, not everyone gets those 100%s, some has to suffer like me and get 98%s. Yes, it is unfair. But then again, you know... at least I don't have any problems with my girlfriend (because I don't have a girlfriend) or car (you know why) so it all evens out in the end. So I crushed my teeth, tied up my veins, stopped crying intensely and went out into the world full of anger and ready to revenge my miserable life to anyone who is responsible.
