I founded the Model UN club at my school, which really wasn't all that bad. I started it in the middle of the year, got about 15 people to join (ie i proved that there was a want for the club and it wouldn't be useless) and at the beginning of the next year we had registered for my school's first ever conference (which we did well on!). So it really isn't that bad if you work a little bit.

Thanks everybody. I am a rising senior so I don't know if I have the time to set up a Model UN.

My major in college is either going to be PoliSci or International Relations, so I would like to become politically active. So does anyone recommend partisan club over non-partisan? Thanks.

Unless you want to do work for a party during the election or something like that, I don't see any reason to start a partisan club. I know I wouldn't join a Young Republicans club since I don't feel that strongly, but I do enjoy talking politics and had a blast in Model UN.

dear ivyleaguewannabe,

nothing turns an ivy league admissions officer on like a 17 year old republican!

I would suggest non-partisan; that way, more people will join. And if more people join, then the club can do more stuff. One the challenges I face as president of my school's recycling club is that not enough people join--and of the few that join, even fewer show up for meetings, and so nothing ever gets accomplished.

So yeah...nonpartisan.

partisan, shows you actually have an opinon. Non-partisan is just an opinionless group that likely isn't as focused, though not neccesarily.

if you really want to get in, you have to think of yourself as a product, and you are your marketer.
who are you selling yourself to? an admissions committee officer who is likely 22-30 who has their job because they like it and not for the money. also, think of where this person lives: NJ, CT, NYC, PA, NH, MA etc...

now, what are the odds that the person looking at your app is a republican...

im not saying dont make a political group, just maybe call it something else

dlesk, do you have any ideas for a name for the club? Do you really think a Republican political group would put a sour taste in an adcom's mouth?

NY_Democrat: your opinion has a lot of depth to it as well. You guys are really confusing me now!

Could you guys chance me? (And anybody else please!)

Updated Stats: Chance me please!

so if my school already has a Model UN, would making a poli sci club (young dem/rep) make sense?
