24 Credit Program at a Community College

I'm thinking about going to the CC here and doing a 24 credit program to get a New York State High School Equivalency Diploma. It's sort of like a GED, but to get it, you just need to successfully complete 24 specified credits at a college. The credits are as follows:

English Language Arts - 6 Credits
English Composition
English Literature
Speech
Creative Writing

Mathematics - 6 Credits
Math
Calculus
Statistics
Business Math
Technical Math

Natural Science - 3 Credits
Biology
Chemistry
Physics
Earth Science
Geology
Botany
Zoology

Social Science - 3 Credits
History
Sociology
Psychology
Economics
Political Science
Labor Studies

Humanities - 3 Credits
Literature
Foreign Languages
Art History/Art Appreciation
Music/Music Appreciation
Theatre
Philosophy
Religion

Career/Tech./Foreign Lang. - 3 Credits
Nutrition
Home Economics
Family & Consumer Studies
Computer Technology
Computer Science
Intro to Phys Ed (lecture only)
Health Education
First Aid/CPR
Studio Art
Theatre Design
Foreign Language (includes Sign Language)

For each of these, there are a variety of courses to choose from, and those are listed under each of the above categories.

Has anyone ever done anything like this? It would get me out of high school and into college a year early, and that's good, so...I'm thinking about doing it.

Any input is welcome.

Oh, and one more question:

Is the NYSHSED the same as the GED just without taking the test?
