Ok, since your a female you won't mind reading this:

Anything Jane Austen.

My recommendations:

Pride and Prejudice
Emma
Mansfield park
Sense and Sensibility

Jane Austen is a notable literary figure for romance novels. Now, most novels are somewhat based on her view of romance in her books. A definite must read. If you want to major in English Literature, you will have to read a work by her sometime in college, so why not start now?

I won't tailor my recommendations to you, but rather I'll share what I bought the day before yesterday at borders:

Guns, Germs, and Steel
Dune
Cosmos
Notes from the Underground

Oh man, Invoyable! When I read your suggestion I thought the name of the book was "Pokemon: I Choose You, Dracula"...and it made me really confused.

I second the recommendation of Catch-22 by Joseph Heller and also want to add anything by Oscar Wilde to the list. The Importance of Being Earnest is a clever play and very quick read, and The Picture of Dorian Grey is popular.
