OP....AMERICAN EAGLE IS NOT PREPPY.
i'm sorry, but this ****es me off.
american eagle, abercrombie, hollister= NOT preppy
since when did ripped jeans and graphic teachers mean preppy!?!?
jcrew, lily pulitzer, ralph lauren = preppy
ANY polos, seersucker, classic blazers, pearls, cardigans, madras, ribbon belts, etc. = preppy

preppy is not a BRAND, it's a lifestyle: preppy: (adj) of, pertaining to, or characteristic of preparatory schools or their students.
AMEN!!

funny because i was about to make a post that AE/Abercrombie/hollister are not preppy. And that J. crew, ralph lauren, lily pulitzer were! crazy!

because when you said you didn't want to look "preppy" you were not referring to the actual definition of preppy, but the wrong yet popular definition of preppy as anything a&f/hollister.

anyway, all style aside jcrew has high quality basics that can fit into any wardrobe.

Do not wear Express for men. It has guido written all over it.

I would go with Jcrew or Brooks Brothers.
