I don't even know who the poplar kids are...
I think it's a mix. But I've noticed the popular girls acting like idiots around boys, which is annoying.
You're not helpless DARNNIT.
Even if they are smart they feel the need to act it.
Needless to say the popular kids steer clear of me.

Half the popular guys are stoners, half are football/basketball/lax bros. All of us girls play sports - soccer, lacrosse, basketball, and volleyball are the most common, but some do softball or track. We all party, and everyone knows about the drugs that go on, but only like half of the popular guys actually do them. The stoners are the only popular people who don't get good grades. The rest of us are smart and work pretty hard, while balancing sports and social life. There are kind of two popular groups of girls, as there are with guys, and I'm in both... I kinda float - some days I'd sit with one group at lunch, some days with the other. Also, our nerds aren't actually smart, if that makes sense. Like our nerdy outcast weird groups just happen to be the most vocal about studying, trying hard, etc., they are not actually the smartest or hardest working.

At my school, the popular kids are the ones who are the nicest and they all get great grades.

Our school is pretty mixed in popularity. There's popular choir kids, popular football players (not all football players are popular), popular ASB people, and just people who everyone loves. Heck this year almost had a gay prom king (he barely lost.)

About 95% of the popular kids in my school are as dumb as bricks and they like it that way. So yes, unfortunately, my school is the stereotypical high school.

In my school, the popular people are the smart people that flirt with each other and mess around and do funny things in class

Most of the popular kids at my school are pretty well-rounded... however, they're also super rich (I go to a pretty wealthy school, and they're probably the richest in the district) and like to suck up to the teachers a lot. They would excel at normal classes but they usually struggle through honors, I guess. I don't talk to any though, they kind of just get on my nerves.

Most of the popular kids at my school are honors kids (we're rising sophomores, so you cant really have APs yet) with decent-great grades. Most of them do sports and keep up a social life (parties etc). I go to a (3000+) public highschool in NC

... My former Calculus rival from another school district over a month ago made it to my news feed for winning a 30 k a year scholarship. Now today he's made the newspaper. He has acceptance to a bunch of Ivy's and a full ride to Stanford... There are several but few students that are smart that make their popularity past their school.

I go to a high school of about 400, so very small compared to most. The popular people in our school for some reason are actually the smartest ones. Everyone who's in our AP classes, and has a bit of a social life is actually at about the top of the chain...like me. Although it is a bit easier when everyone knows everyone..only about 100 students per class, if that.

My school has about 1700 kids, with around 400-500 in my grade. The popular ones are caucasians who do sports and are really nice to teachers and other kids. Most of them are average when it comes down to academics, though. Almost all of them are solid middle class Christian families. I live in the south

My school is pretty much the same as the OP. Although, there's about half of the "smart" people that could be considered "popular" and the other half maybe not so much.
