Well I have a lot to get done this weekend. Write/draft 3 college essays; two pieces for a class; and a few assignments done for an online class. Here's to a productive weekend.

I wish they didn't send out rejections through the mail. I'm already dreading any rejections, but to have it in writing seems so... Depressing. I'd rather just see a rejection via email or on the college's website.
1-3 weeks until I hear back from UMass. (It could be less since they were just waiting on quarter grades.) I'm anxious. It says my application is complete and they're reviewing it. UMass and Pace are pretty much my first choice schools after Brandeis. I'm not counting on an acceptance from there so I'm trying not to get too attached (since I'm far below the avg accepted student).
Oh Niquii, the class Intro to Journalism is incredibly difficult at UF. The teacher doing my rec had an old student who goes to UF come back to visit and she was telling him about this class. She said there are like t-shirts that say "I survived ____." She has a B, but it's still very difficult and not many pass it. Just a warning in case you end up there.

^^ i was just talking to someone about that! it's almost like the thin white envelop mocks you bc you dont even need to open it if the news is bad. At least michigan sends theirs out via email and then a week later sends a packet or something like that. I have a countdown going on my phone for notre dame lol i dont know what im gonna do if i get rejected/deferred...whats worse is that tons of people asked me where i want to go so it would be awful to have to say i was rejected or something

Ikr! Although, the envelopes have gotten thinner anyways. The acceptance letter to Northwestern College was just 2 pieces of paper. So I've learned not to base it off of thickness.
It's like having it in writing makes it so official that they didn't want you. Brandeis and UMass update your status online and then send you a letter. They should only send you the letter if you get in. Getting the letter when you've gotten in is very exciting, otherwise it's just disappointing.
No one gets how hard it is to get in either. My mom was like, "Well, they have a 45% ED acceptance rate, so you have a good chance." Um that's because a majority of the accepted kids are geniuses. It'll be a miracle for me to get in. I've avoided telling people about my reach school because I don't want to tell them I got rejected. Only the people who need to know, know. (My GC, teacher who wrote my rec, and my parents. Well, and you all.) other people don't understand how hard it is. :/

That's why I don't tell my schools to many people, just a select few. (Guidance counselor and secretary, and a friend who's applying to similarly hard schools, and well the CC.)
It's hard because people around here are used to students picking a SUNY or similar in-state school and getting in; they must think I'm slacking when I say I "don't know" where I'm going.

My AP English class had this big discussion about where everyone is applying and worrying about getting in (the teacher had stepped out for 45 minutes to lie down in the nurse's office because of a headache) and I was just going "I am so glad I don't have to do this anymore."
I got an acceptance letter from Randolph College today. Single sheet of paper. Said they'll send a scholarship offer in 3 weeks. Not that I care. I'm waiting 'til March to see if I can get something from the school I'm actually going to go to.

I don't like when people are secretive about where they're applying. I do not see the big deal in telling people when they ask.

You don't see how telling others about your extremely fragile aspirations can be a bit...difficult?

Well, for one, my school list is quite long, so it would be a pain to list them all out. Two, my top choice is a school that has an extremely low admissions rate. Since most people don't realize exactly how hard it is to get into schools like that, I'd rather not tell too many people to save myself from embarrassment when I don't get in.
I normally just tell people "oh I'm looking at colleges near Boston" or something.

There was this point where I felt an exaggerated (and unfounded?) sense of confidence about my chances of getting into this college in Connecticut and then finally just told everyone who had been asking me.

For matches and safeties, no I don't mind telling people because I have a good chance of getting in. Other people don't understand how hard it is to get into a top school. It's embarrassing to admit you got rejected because of the lack of understanding. Okay, I'll give an example. I told my best friend I was applying to Brandeis and she asked what the average SAT and GPAs were. When I told her she was said, "Oh you'll definitely get in." Never mind the fact that I'm below their average (for SATs)and that not everyone with those SATs/GPAs gets in.
I usually tell people Pace and UMass are my first choice schools so I'm not actually being secretive about it.

So the main argument here is that you would be embarrassed if you didn't get in.
A little too sensitive, I think...

When I told some people my tops (nd unc and uva) they said I should be applying to better schools (seriously I was like um are you kidding?) so it'll be really embarassing if I don't get in and people ask bc they think I should be applying to Yale or something which I had no interest in. Like I've said before I want the big sports/party/school atmosphere and people don't get it which is really getting on my nerves. Not to mention no oone in my school seems to understand why I want to leave the northeast... I NEED to be a plane ride away from home lol
