hey, i am currently a sophmore. I am taking alg 2 right now and next yr i get to take pre calc. if i wanna take ap bio, then i will have to drop pre calc and take it senior yr. is that a bad idea?

YES! don't drop math. If you absolutely can't move your schedule around, then don't take ap bio until senior year. Stopping math and then picking it up again are a bad idea.

Thanks so much. The thing about my full schedule is this, I love band, so i am taking band as an elective, in my senior yr, i could drop history and take ap bio, is that a good idea? cuz in our school, the requirement for history is only 3 yrs. I am taking ap us hist 1 this yr and next i will be taking ap us hist 2,

that's weird. At most schools ap us is just 1 year. If anything drop history to take ap bio, but don't drop math.

yes, in our district, the AP US history class is split into two years. Freshman yr is World history and there is no choice but to take that. For soph and junior yrs, you could either take academic us 1 and 2 or ap us 1 or 2.

and just out of curiosity, what is the minimun math for premed?

Minimum is probably 1 year of math with at least 1 semester of calculus, preferably two.

I'm glad I live in Louisiana now. I did take the AP classes, got Bs pretty much[went to hardest, most prestigious new orleans high school](32 ACT). But I plan on taking the easy road and going to LSU for undergrad and prob LSU for med school. You can make fun of us for being a dumb state, but those of us that are actually half-smart, we've got zero competition for med school.

I would highly suggest you look into the medical school programs available in your area. More and more universities have programs that guarantee acceptance into med school provided the student maintains a particular GPA in college. Many times these programs are based strictly on GPA and ACT/SAT scores rather than courseload in high school. This means that your son may be better off taking a lighter load in high school and getting mostly As. This also leaves him time for a job, extracurriculars and maybe a little experience in your local hospital. You could talk to a college admissions counselor for the best and most pertinent information. Good luck to your son!

i'm a junior in high school and also interested in pre-med. this year i have taken Anatomy & Physiology as far as sciences go,and as of next year this is what my schedule will look like:
AP Calculus
AP Biology
AP English
AP Psychology
Honors Chemistry
Advanced Chorus
how does this look?... because of blocked scheduling i cannot fit in physics or AP Chem, what is more important, AP Bio or AP Chem, i can only fit one or the other.

We're signing up for classes for Senior Year. I need to decide between Ap Psycology and Ap Statistics. Anyone know which one is more beneficial for Pre-Med? Also, if I have already taken Spanish 4, is it ok to not take Ap Spanish?

I'm an international student currently in the equivalent of junior year in high school and I have a question for you guys. If you could give me advice then that would be great!

Basically, I am hoping to do a physics major with premed at college.
By the time I finish senior year I should have ASs (like the SL in the international baccalaureate) in English (lang and lit), Biology and General studies (tackles economics, politics, sociology, philosophy etc.) and A2s (like the HL in the IB) in Chemistry, Physics and Maths (maths includes 4 semesters of calculus, 2 of statistics and 2 of mechanics).

Is this going to be good preparation or should I change a subject for something else? I was going to do further maths instead of English and cover things like matrices and complex numbers but I figured this would be closer to the breadth of the US curriculum.

Since I don't have room for a language I am self-teaching French in my own time. I know that isn't really a good substitute for formal classes but it's something!
