ironically, this year my school's club sold krispy kreme donuts (since we wanted to raise money for our club and they are popular). everyone was joking about how the physicians wanted more patients by selling such fatty food :P

for suggestions--maybe sell fruit cups? or sliced watermelon really cheap (a quarter a slice) is a good idea (i've tried it before and it's an okay seller) especially if the day is going to be hot where you are located

hi guys, actually I just had a great idea and I was wondering if anyone wanted to support me on this initiative.

NewDra24's comment and also seeing the popularity of the FDA or FPA clubs sparked me to think: I WANT TO START A NATIONAL ORGANIZATION!

pm me/email me (there's a function to do that) if you're interested and I can start drafting some stuff.

BTW, I'm TOTALLY interested...this is me saying yes on this thread. count me in.(i didn't pm you btw, why is making it national important?

haha thanks drsarah! well I know that there are hundreds of thousands of high schoolers that are interested in becoming doctors so I think there is a real need for some place/organization that could consolidate all the resources/etc for these students. plus it would totally create support for small clubs (which is important) and provide a place to go for activities/ideas

I'm just thinking a national org could provide conferences, speakers, networks of doctors in all areas (because doctors would be really excited to support a large organization vs. just a small 10 member club for example..), mentors (both college pre-med students, current med students, and doctors) among many other potential activities.

I really think the mentoring aspect could become big after a few years. Everyone passing through the FPA organization could sign up as a mentor and give advice to people all over the country and be paired up with high schoolers in their area/college students in their area/or even at their same college (e.g. juniors/seniors in college mentoring frosh/soph)

drsarah--what kind of role do you think you'd like to take in implementing this? at the moment I'm mass emailing all the FPA presidents I know/can find about this idea

any role..i guess..not sure how you're going to make it 'national'... i already have speakers coming into my club...pretty exciting, just don't know how to recruit members.

tip #1 from Sarah==> mybrochuremaker.com is pretty sweet for flyers.
