hi, im a rising senior, and i want to go to Brown U, but i wanna be a doc, and from wat ive heard, the MCATS are ROUGH...so i wanna avoid them. can you gimme some suggestions for some programs i can apply to..within my stats range? PLME is verrrry tough, and i pbly stand no chance...

ECs:

- volunteering at hospital...about 200 hrs
- web page development: i reconstructed verona high school's alumni association as well as the school site, which will be this summer's project
- school clubs: mathematics team/club(4); harvard Model UN(3), academic bowl (3), cross country/winter-spring track(4), wep page design club, spanish club(4, president)
- volunteer at BAPS medical camps(drives to help ppl w/out health insurance)
- will do CPR this summer as well as get EKG/ Phlebotomy certifications
- i applied to a bunch of high school internships, but got rejected...=( (any idea if i can do research with a collge professor or something?!)
- i think i can write some good essays, tho i havent yet, and ill have great recs; no legacy/recruitment/ 1st generation or anything
- i reeeeely wanna be a doctor; interesetd areas: cardiology, neurology, anaestheseology, radiology; any programs for these areas?!
so...yeah that was long and ugly, but some suggestions would really help!

I'm not sure but the only assured programs can only guarantee you to be accepted into medical school. Going into one of those specialties depend on your performance at your medical school.

Don't make a decision like this just to avoid one standardized test. That's ridiculous.

Patelbhai,

Realistically speaking, your SAT score of 2100 is too low to get in Brown regular Bachelors program, leave aside BA/MD at Brown PLME. For Brown PLME, you need SAT >2330.

I suggest checking out the PLME2007 official list. You will get an idea of the stats of accepted students.

GPA of 4.5? Colleges do not accepted weighted GPAs. They look at only the unweighted GPAs to ensure similar standards are applied across all applicants.

Regarding Specialities - it's way too early for you to make an educated judgement about this issue. When you are in med school, you may completely change your mind. There are plenty of posts on this issue in archives.

You should only concentrate at this point on getting accepted in a good program. You can worry about specialization when you have completed your Bachelors + 2 more years of med school at the minimum.

Reviewing your ECs, I think you have a better chance of being accepted in a Liberal Arts program.

Adcoms in combined med programs like to see applicants with a focus in medical field; medical research, submission of abstracts to local state research competitions, EMT certification, doc-shadowing etc.

Try to secure some research apprenticeship during the upcoming Summer. If you have any contacts, now is the time to work the phones!
Good luck!

Can you retake SATs?
And try practicing before your 2nd round. I suggest timing yourself to work on practice tests. Sometimes, it's more about timing problem that can lower your score. It's not a bad score.......so don't be disheartened. Just not right for Brown.
