Hello everyone,


I am currently a senior in high school and am thinking about getting into the Anesthesiologist field of medicine. Im just really worried, im an A,B average student and if i tried 100% i know i could be an A student. Im just worried i wont be able to make it for some reason. Does anyone know how difficult it is to make it into this field? Anything anyone can point out would be great.

You're too far off to be worried about anesthesiology specifically - focus on the next step: getting into the college that is best for you. Then worry about your classes, the MCAT, getting accepted to medical school, the courses during your first two years, the USMLE Step 1, your third year clinical rotations, and then applying for residency positions in anesthesiology as a fourth year medical student.

Even if you graduate college in 4 years and get accepted to medical school in your first try, you are a minimum of 8 years away before having to make the decision on what specialty you wish to pursue. During this time you should explore what it really means to be an anesthesiologist, and if that fits what you want for your career. Exposure to a lot of different fields of medicine both as an undergrad and a medical student will help you with this decision - most current medical students change their minds about specialty numerous times during their first two years.
