Family from Spain

Will colleges still consider me Hispanic if my roots are from Spain? I know on the CommonApp and other forms it lists Spain as an applicable country, but I heard somewhere that colleges only consider Hispanic to be Mexico/Puerto Rico, is this true?

It is true that MA and PR students are the most underrepresented of Hispanics in US colleges, and they are the most sought after. However, Hispanics from other countries are still valued by colleges for the diversity they bring to campus. In other words, it's more a matter of degree rather than a yes/no question.
