Lol…I’ve got to thank Mr_Socrates and Tiger Pride….you really have to call Howard…alot!! And yes be prepared to get nasty if you need to…yes the Howard people are that nasty!! But they can’t mess with a Trini!!!…. On the other side of the spectrum however, there are some are extremely friendly and helpful ones who are willing to work with you and make an international call to let you know what’s happening. Today I got the founders scholarship so I’ll be attending Howard this fall! And thank you futureprez… ‘keep hope alive!’ I will be seeing you next fall!!

But in a completely hypothetical situation if anyone got a full scholarship to Howard (Founders) and a full scholarship to Hampton- with a computer! (Trustee) and were and international student majoring in Architecture which one would you choose and why? Lol…just hypothetical, I only got one!!

If I had to decide between Hampton and Howard for Architecture, I would pick Howard. Although both have very respectable programs, I would choose Howard for these reasons:

1. At one time, 60% of all African-American architects were Howard grads.

2. Howard is located in D.C., along with the American Institute of Architects (AIA), which makes for great internships and career opportunities.

How about for Pharmacy? What school would you choose, Howard or Hampton?

I don't know too much about Pharmacy, but...

For Pharmacy I would recommend FAMU, their 6-year B.S./Ph.D. program is highly regarded.

But being that it's between Howard and Hampton, again I would have to say Howard. The reason is very simple. Howard's Medical, Dentistry, and Pharmacy (basically anything dealing with medicine) schools are VERY well-known for producing some of the best blacks in the field.

Then again, Hampton may also have a great progam, but this is just what I've heard/seen.

Hi, I have a family member who wants to attend the REAL HU, Howard and I wanted to know how important you guys think SAT scores are relative to the rest of the application components?

I had a cousin who applied with me this year! She had a 3.7 GPA and she was her class president, but she had bad test scores! She didn't get in. GO BISON and good luck to your family member! Hope to see your family member there fall 2007!

Better yet I think Howard is the most selective HBCU with an acceptance rate of about 40%, and I think that was a couple of years ago! I think that they probably a little more selective now, but not by much! I know a kid who got into an Ivy and didn't get into Howard! It might be more than just scores and grades, it might be the essay and extracurriculars as well! GOOD LUCK again!

I think everything factors into the admission process; i've heard alot of people with not so good SAT scores get in based on extracurricular activities and high school GPA. Just make sure there not abysmal! Also certain majors like engineering requires certain SAT scores like math over 500. I believe the average SAT score for Howard is 1060. (They still don't look at the writing as yet and this could be older data) But if you're looking for a HU scholarship it’s almost entirely dependant on your SAT scores and applying early. Remember nothing ventured is nothing gained!

P.S. I believe Hampton’s SAT score range is a little lower. But I guess it’s not the real HU!

Believe it or not..Competition for the girls (applying to Howard) is much more intense than it is for the guys. It contributes to the fact that the female to male ration is about 3:1. They want more males to apply to Howard. I guess it's easier for them to accept males with a larger range of SAT scores/stats. I would at least aim for 1100, the competition at Howard gets more intense every year and also you want that scholarship lol. I missed the scholarship, between math and verbal I got like a 1140, I wish I could've did better but everytime I got into that testing room I messed up on my math sections (which I knew I could've did a hell of a lot better on).

wow...lol...tough luck for those girls!!! also speaking of math did anyone take the math placement test?? is it hard?? and why can we use calculators!?!!! math without a calculator!??!!! i might as well be blinfolded!

I think that in the years to come, Howard will become increasingly more selective, just as its position in the rankings moves up. I go to a diverse suburban high school in New England, but majority white. There have only been 3 applicants to Howard in the last 4 years. All 3 were rejected !! My guidance counselor told me that coming from N.E. would give me an edge, cause most kids applying to HU were coming from the south. But still, Howard will continue to change their standards and I think in the long run it will only serve the school well. Getting into Howard will mean having what it takes all around academically, etc.

I had no idea Howard was that hard to get into. The math placement text is okay, but you may want to brush up on the Unit circle and logarithms (no solving, but you have to rearrange them) and it's basic algebra. It recommended me for Calc 1, which I'm gonna take, I don't feel comfortable moving on even though I took Calc AB. It's 40 questions and you have 75 minutes, it's really not that bad.
