| Thank you for all your input. She really feels good about Howard. I noticed in the Howard stats that 23% of those admitted were in the top 10% of their high school class, 49% in the top 25% of their class (US News 2006). She is in the top 10% of her class and if not, right outside it (i mean a couple of places and she has taken honors/AP courseload). Does this send her app to top of the pack or no?
Thanks for all the responses in advance. I wish CC would promote the HBCU's more! Thanks again. |

| Well i used the online application simply because it was faster and i am and international student. but it really doesn't matter, since, you're gonna have to send supplemental information in the mail anyway. you should look at each essay, both different, and depending upon which one you D feels more comfortable with is the method she should choose. Also HU may quicker lose a paper application than an online application. |

| There were two different essays with the paper and online. Since I had a big fancy essay already typed up, I went ahead and used the paper application (which I had to download and print out because they had ran out of hard copies or something). If I could do it all over again, I think I would've applied Early Action. |

| Hampton or Howard Which is a better safety school for me. Hampton or Howard. My SAT scores mean that I get a full tuition and housing scholarship. Which is better I am leaning at hampton, because of the pharmacy program. |

| I really don't think that you can call Howard a safety school because more african american students are shifting toward HBCUs and the overall AA pool of candidates is becoming stronger with more students taking AP classes, and scoring better on SATs:
Although you have grades/ stats that place you in the running for merit aid, some will come to the table with better stats that will potenitally knock you out of the box (the amount of merit aid is limited so the merit aid goes first to those at the top of the applicant pool becasue it brings up the overall stats of the admitted class).
There will be legacy admissions and full paying students (remember neither school is not need blind in their admissions process so the ability to pay will be a factor). |

| Socrates could you tell me about Howard. I read the thread and saw you had some concerns a few years ago too. What are the dorms like? What is the social scene like? thats going to be big in my decision. How are classes and such? I just want to know the generic stuff before I decide to visit. I was accepted with some scholarship by the way. |
