With regard to a legacy essay, you might went to look up famous alumni and how HU graduates makeup a significant proportion of African American professionals. I graduated in 80, and 84 (from the medical school). Also I'll try to link a few sites you can get some historical perspective from. Good luck!

for some reason, howard is requiring that my brother FAX them a copy of his social security number before they make a decision on his application. Mind you, my brother sent his application in before the Nov. 1 deadline. And it is just now that they are asking for this information. Does anyone know if this is standard practice?

Track - 2 years - JV
American Cancer Society - 3 years - Treasurer
Environmental Club - 3 years - Vice President
Character Counts - 3 years
Key Club - 3 years
Black Teen Summit - 4 years

Literary Magazine Editing Board - 3 years

Volunteered at all local Special Olypmic events
Volunteered at all local Senior Olympic Events
Volunteered at Blank Park Zoo over the summer
Volunteered at Iowa State Fair
Volunteered at Juneteenth
Summer job at Hy-Vee

Participated in 12.6 mile long bike marathon
Participated in 6 mile long road race.
Participated in 4 mile long running marathon.
..SEVERAL marathons, too many to type.lol.

What are my chances of being accepted into Howard?
Also, I know my Freshman year grades were terrible, but my Jr. and Senior year grades were fantastic ..Could I get academic scholarships for those two years?

And can I get athletic scholarships for Cross Country and Track even though I was JV and only did them for 2 years? I would have done them the first two years, but my grades were too bad.

Are there scholarships for Mock Trial?

The reason my grades were so bad Freshman and Sophomore year is because my father died right before Freshman year started. I was depressed.

So what are my chances?

I hope to double major in Sociology and History/Black Studies.

Thanks,
SomeGirl

I'm a Female Ethiopian-American ..If that helps, because it's taking a little longer than I thought it would to get replies, lol.

Also, I do modeling ...could I put that on my application? Or would it just look silly?

FYI a close friend of my daughter's was accepted at Howard for the fall with an adequate Financial Aid package. But in July, they asked for a chunk of cash that couldn't come out of her financial aid for some reason and she was unable to come up with the money. So she can't go. She was accepted at some other terrific schools (University of Chicago, De Paul, Temple) and although some of them were willing to take her even at this late date, they couldn't offer her on campus housing. She' only 17 so nobody will rent an apartment to her. As it turns out, she's going to have to go to her local Junior College and live at home. What a heartbreaker!

That's terrible! So she didn't go to a real college, simply because she couldn't afford it? This is a perfect example of how ridiculous our system is. Did she apply for a lot of scholarships? Did she apply for any loans from the bank?

..I hope that doesn't happen to me, I do NOT come from a wealthy family. Where I come from, cell phones with plans are big time purchases, lol. And I don't even have a cell phone.

What do you think my chances are at Howard?
