My cousin is a successful lawyer with dreadlocks; it just really depends on capability and skill, and if a company judges soley on looks, then why would one want to be part of that type of company?

I agree there are many successful people with dreads and cornrolls, for example Susan Taylor! I think that it is what the person knows and how they present themselves that really counts not necessarily their hair! Eventhough I am a firm believer in a clean appearance, including hair! It is important to keep your dreads and cornrolls looking good!! I think that Hampton should have taken that approach versus the whole no cornrolls and dreads thing! There are some people that look bad and don't have either or!

I think that the ban is just another example of HBUCs treating their students, who are young ADULTS, like children. I am no fan of dreds (or cornrows on males) but college is a time for students to express themselves. Of course, "a unique hairstyle" is probably not the right fit for an interview with a corporation or a conservative business setting. Then again, Russell Simmons regularly meets with corporate chiefs while he's dressed in a hockey jersey and a lopsided cap.
