Social Life at a HBCU?

At Howard (or any HBCU), I assume that a lot of emphasis would be on clothing and competition than at a non-HBCU. I would hate to pass up a full-ride to Howard over something like this, but my GC seems to think so too. Also, since they're offering to fly me to Howard to visit, should I accept knowing that there's a 90% chance I won't even like it, let alone attend?

I've been researching a lot on HBCU's.
And I have heard that Howard is a very fashion conscious school, however as with any school that has a certain characteristic to it...there are always students that don't fit the mold. I think if that is the only thing that bothers you about Howard, it would be a silly reason, IMO, to pass up a full-ride.

Additionally, if you are still iffy I think going on the visiting trip would be an excellent idea. It would allow you to see the student body first hand and form your own opinions on it, before you even apply/attend. If you don't like it, don't attend. But I think you should definitely check it out.

If you do, tell me what you think! I am planning to visit in spring...so far away.

Okay, thanks for the advice, 2legit. When I visit later this fall, I'll keep you updated.
