I'm not worried about getting in, more scholarships...

I'm applying RD to Howard; I'm about 99% sure I can get it, but do you think I'd be able to get some good school awarded scholarships?

Mid-sized school in Phoenix, AZ
African-American Female (First generation citizen)

GPA (UW) - 3.8
GPA (W) - 4.4
IB Diploma Candidate (I take the hardest classes possible)

Class Rank - #4/500ish; Top 1%

SAT (I'm retaking; I know I can do at least +100 points better in each CR & W)
Critical Reading - 560
Math - 710
Writing - 600

SAT II (Taking in October; probably in math & english)

Extracurricular Activities
National Honor Society 10th-12th
-Vice President 11th
-President 12th
FCA 9th-12th
-Leader 12th
"Wii Like Sports" Club 12th
-Founder/President
Swim Team 9th-11th
-Most Improved Freshmen 9th
-Lettered 10th & 11th
Be the Change Club 10th
-Exectuive Position 10th
Softball Team 9th
-Most Improved Freshmen 9th
Theatre 9th-12th

Community Service +200 hours
-Mostly charities with NHS
-Heavily involved with Invisible Children

Talents and Awards
- hmm... none I can think of other than the ones listed above.
- I've been playing violin for the past 9 years
- I've written a novel

Other
- I maintain a part-time job during the school year, working about 15hrs a week.
- I lifeguard full-time during the summer, while still maintaining the part time job.

AP/IB Coursework
- AP English Language 3
- IB Theatre Arts 5
- The rest of my IB Diploma tests aren't till May

Essay - Writing is definitely my strong point. It'll probably be about the quirky irrationalities that have shaped my personality. (My father's a polygamist, I was pretty much raised in a cult, my little brother's autism, etc.)

References - I should be getting really good ones from my counselor, my english teacher I've had for 3 years, and I'm debating between my theatre teacher of 4 years & my NHS advisor.

ECs - I'm really passionate about community service, especially the Invisible Children. I'm also really into Theatre (trying out for fall play & spring musical), and will likely be pursing film studies.

Grants, Scholarships & Fellowships - Howard University

You may want to consider an early application. They give the scholarships until the money runs out. It will be a nice holiday present receiving that Fed-Ex package with your scholarship award.
