IIT is in the city of Chicago itself, on the near South Side. As with any urban campus there are always challenges but the campus itself is quite safe. There is a campus police force and the headquarters of the city of Chicago police department is right next to campus. The most common occurrence is theft from open offices or labs and the occasional bicycle. If students feel uncomfortable walking around they can call the campus police for an escort.

The neighborhood around campus is getting to be quite a bit nicer over the time I have been there. There are now a lot of new apartments within walking distance of campus and there will be more coming in the future.

Comparing all the neighborhoods in the city of Chicago, there are many of them which are much rougher than the one surrounding IIT.

I actually visited the campus a few weeks ago and I'd have to say I felt pretty safe, I got of the green line and walked to the campus, did not feel unfortable for a minute. The campus is in fact really modern and urban which may take a little bit to get used to but really green and comfortable.
Hope I get enough scholarships to attend it
