Better late than never, its hard to quantify the academic difficulty at IIT as it depends on the individual. As a recent graduate in AE and ME, I can say this, the engineering departments are very rigorous, as well as most of the other departments. If you can tell me what major I can tell you what percent graduated with a 3.5+

@ssoon89 According to the commencement hand out there were 23 ME graduates for spring 2008 (bachelors) and of those that graduated, 6 got cum laude or higher (gpa 3.5+). The years before we had high honors (3.5+) and honors (3.0+) and if I recall correctly, just a little bit less than half got honors or better. However, mind you these are the people that actually graduated, the typical graduation rate is in the low 60% (6 years) and low 40's/high 30's (4 years). In addition, from the MMAE (ME, AE, MTE) department I personally knew several people that had switched majors.

Me and my friends often say this about IIT "easy to get in but tough to get out." Well that is unless you are freakishly smart/hard worker or don't care about your grades.
