@anialways- Thanks for clearing that up!

@fall2016parent- No I didn't mean to think the on campus jobs would be the source of a significant portion of my college expenses. I was thinking that they could at least take care of my personal and miscellaneous expenses...

@ Tizil - I dont think any parent will think of ROI when one decides to pay they always want the best for their children. In fact when you decide a particular college the ROI is really an unknown figure.Academic excellence and admission in best college unfortunately is not directly proportional to what you earn in your life. When we decided to send our Daughter we did weigh in all options as mentioned by anialways though we can afford .Only thing is we have to stretch ourselves little more.Unlike anialways I have a younger son as well and who will go to University in 2015 .So we have to stretch that looooooong!!!
BTW the Merit scholarship my D received in WPI brought a big smile on our faces !!!

Hey! Can anyone tell me whether we need to show funds for all the 4 years for a US F1 visa or only the first year? And do the funds need to be the bank balance? What all assets can be shown?

Thanks!

For F-1 Visa you need to get a statement from Bank called 'Balance Confirmation Certificate' which will show Bank balance inclusive of all Current A/C and FDs and serve as a confirmation of your ability to pay fee for the First Year.

You cannot do internships in the first year on F-1 Visa but you can take up on campus jobs.
I'm not sure this is true. A LOT of my peers are going for internships on F-1.

F-1 Visa Work Restrictions | eHow.com

@anialways seems to be correct. In order to get CPT (curricular practical training) (ie internships off-campus), you need to have been a student for one academic year. So summer past your 2nd semester would be fine.

Having said that, there should be plenty of on-campus paying jobs to keep oneself busy for 20 hrs during school year and 40 hrs during summer. But wouldn't you want to go home during summer

Guys, on the common app, I just give my counselor's email to invite him. Then, does the counselor need to fill the school report and thr midterm report online or print, fill and scan the document along with the transcript??
And, I just asked my counselor( principal) to give his email and he gave me his yahoo address, he explained that the school's email can only be accessed by the school administration abd school email holders( teachers, that is) and that the school email account rejects emails from unknown reciepients. But the principal gave me his personal phone no. so they can always call him and ask. Will the adcoms look more into this, Will they think I am lying??

Mrinal - why are you doing this? Commonapp gets wiped out in late June and comes back clean for 2013 on August 1st. You should not be doing anything now.

Yeah, so after first year counts as one year down since you have sophomore standing. You can DEFINITELY do internships after your first year.

There are three things I'm looking forward the most to:

The admitted students day

My first meal at the cafeteria

My first lecture hall
