Are you in undergrad or grad program? I can only tell you my experience 20+ years back. Undergrad in India (being in same culture) is a definite plus. Yes, it was a lot of fun and lots of friends in hostel. Still in touch. Coming to america as a graduate student, the culture is very different. Some can adjust to it faster than others. As for professors, I think, are good and bad both places. More TA's in the US at the undergrad level, much much bigger class size.
India was better in that respect. Research opportunities as a graduate student was better in america. Again, all these experiences are from 20+ years back. Students seem to adjust better these days ..(world is much more integrated due to the internet/technology era)..
Thanks fall2016parent for the detailed answer! I am doing undergrad now. The engineering program at my college doesn't allow electives or inter-disciplinary subjects.......only engineering subjects....while students at other programs in the college get to take whatever they want!!! This is really a negative point for me, because I am not yet sure if I want to continue with engineering. What type of engineering did you study?

@orangeflower - I would suggest you talk to an advisor asap. Maybe the college of engineering has different criteria. What engineering are you studying? If computer science, usually you can do a CS as part of liberal arts/science curriculum as well. And you can skip out of some of the Engineering classes. But I would suggest you talk to your advisor before you transfer out. Take the initiative, dont be hesitant to bother folks, the secretaries who work there..and even a fellow graduate student...to get your answers.

Yes, my college's engineering program has different requirements than the rest of the college. I am not going to transfer out yet, because I am no sure if I want to stay in engineering. Anyway, thanks a lot for all the advice!!!

Hello Everyone.
I'm an Indian student and I've applied to the following universities for fall '13. Undergrad. Major- Computer Science
Carnegie Mellon
UC Berkeley
UC San Diego
UIUC
GeorgiaTech
UMichigan
University of Southern California
UT Austin
Purdue
U of Minnesota
U of Wisconsin, Madison
VirginiaTech
SUNY Bufallo (Scholarship chance)
UT Dallas (Scholarship chance)
Although I dont really have an financial problems.

I just wanted to know when the admission results come out or when the applicant is notified whether he is admitted or not, for the given universities. No Early Decision. But I went for Early Action in all the universities which offered. All the documents are complete as well.

Thanks a lot.

I want to get into upenn's Wharton school for undergraduate program . I'm in 12th standard currently. (Maharashtra state board ) I got 92 in 10th. Was the head boy. Won many debates elocutions and personlaity contests throughout school life. I'm also a cricket commentator. I've even had a stint in the Indian premier league. You might be able to hear me again In this edition on tv or on all india radio. I actively do community service and part of quite a few NGOs. I'm writing a fictional novel , it's about half complete. Should be complete by June next year. I also have a business model which im going to implement after my 12th (in march 13). It's social entrepreneurship where we make money and help people. I expect to get in 80-90 range in 12th standard. Any chances of me getting in ? I'll be send my application in November 13, which will give me enough time to study for my SATs and polish up my resume. Have we got any Wharton Indians in this forum ? So people, what do you think ? Waiting for your replies.

@User22. I am a humanities student. I added Economics and Sociology as 'Electives'. You can do the same. Select Electives, then enter the course name.
