| Anybody have updated IU information? I am trying to research the MT major and cannot find any updated info on the web. Has anyone been successful in confirming they are offering a MT major and that they are starting in 2007? If so, it would be helpful to see what their audition requirements and dates are.
Any info is helpful!

| I visited IU a few months ago and it was told by the head of the musical theatre department that auditions for the bfa program would start in the upcoming audition season...he said they would be holding auditions in Chicago and New York. IU is an amazing school with an amazing campus...I really believe that when the bfa program gets going it will quickly elevate to an mt "ivy league." Its that good of a school already. |

| I visited IU, where I will be attending next year, in the last few days of April.
I was told by Charles Railsbeck, the head of Theatre and Drama at IU, that they were still in the approval process for the Major. Last time I spoke to him, there was no definate answer to if, and when, the BFA will begin.
I'm going up to IU for orientation on Wednesday. If I find out anything more I will let you know.
And, to the above poster:
Yep. We are just that good |

| Contact for IU MT BFA To get firsthand info on where this program stands I suggest you contact the person whom I was told would be directing it. He is a current IU faculty member named George Pinney. He confirmed in an email to me last fall that he would be running it, although at that time we were also told by the Theatre Dept. adviser (Charles Railsback) that it still needed complete approval. But this was in Oct. '05, so I'm sure things are farther along. Pinney's email is pinneyg@indiana.edu.
Good luck! |

| Just wanted to update on the new BFA program. I called Indiana today to ask about it and spoke to a secretary in the theater office first who said they had actually just received word today that the BFA Musical Theater program had been officially approved for funding by the University. She then transferred my call to Charles Railsback, who confirmed that information. He said they were having a meeting on September 5th about it to hammer out details. He seemed quite surprised that I had even heard about it and asked where I had heard about it. I told him "College Confidential" of course! Anyway, he said to call back after September 5th and he should have more details, but that they would definitely be setting up auditon dates for this year for the Fall 2007 entry. He just didn't have details yet. It will be housed in the school of Theater, he confirmed that also. |

| NYDanceMom, I appreciate you posting that update. Indiana is a school I have often recommended as a BA, no audition, option for MT candidates, as they have an Individualized MT Major and it isn't that hard to get into academically, and can serve as a great back up to those seeking BFA programs. In fact, a good friend of both my daughters from our HS, who is a rising junior in college, did not get accepted to any of her BFA programs and went to Indiana and loves it. As I have been working with various students who are putting together their college lists now, I had been going back to Indiana's site to check because all last year, we were all discussing the impending BFA at Indiana but every time I have checked their site, alas, it was like it has always been, just with the BA. I was really wandering what had happened as there was not a word of the BFA at all on the site (this was VERY recently) and so it was on my mind. So, I am glad you got the inside word. I wonder if the BA Individualized Major in MT still will exist. I also am curious about current students and if they can audtiion into the BFA. I look forward to seeing their updates on their site. |

| iu bfa i have a strong feeling that this bfa mt at IU will def bump it up to an mt "ivy league" school. i visited the school in April and was consistently blown away by everything I saw. I expect the competitiveness of this school to sky rocket very soon. |

| We are thrilled with this news in our house! D and I visited IU this summer, and she instantly fell in love with the amazing facilities, campus, town... She knew immediately that this school was the one for her. She was going to go the audition route this year until she saw Indiana. Since their Jacobs School of Music is so highly regarded, she knew she could go with their MT independent study and get the BA in Theater. We knew the BFA MT was on the horizon. So it looks like there might be one audition in her future! Either way, she knows that IU is her first choice all the way! |

| For this year, if MT is not completely organized, a strong singer could consider auditioning for the VP program at IU which is well established. My son has a friend who went this week to start in that program. |

| Ericsmom, the Equity actress who played the lead in my D's show this summer got that same degree at IU as well. She then got an MFA at UNC-Chapel Hill. |

| BFA is happening Just thought I'd let everyone know that the Music Theatre BFA is happening this year. I received an email today with information and links to the IU website. There will be three audition dates: November 4, February 3, and March 3. They will admit a class of 10-15 students. Those not admitted for the BFA will be able to choose the BA Theatre instead. |
