My Schedule

I'm a first semester freshmen and here are my first semester classes.

ECON-E 201 Introduction to Economics
MATH-M 118 Finite Mathematics
BUS-A 100 Accounting Basics
BUS-K 201 The Computer in Business
ENG-W 350 Advanced Expository Writing
CLLC-Q 199 Collins Residential Learning Workshop
MUS-P 110 Beginning Piano

It's only sixteen credit hours. So, life should be okay, right?

Why is that hard??? because A100 is required...or recommended and 3 other of the Kelley requirement courses...i think the hard course on that is the Econ E 201? dam i hope all the classes aren't full before i go for my orientation on Aug 24th

You should probably replace one of the following courses with an easier course. When taking certain courses simultaneously, they can make the other courses harder to manage.

Drop one of the following:

M118
K201
E201 (this is what I'd recommend dropping)

Taking 7 classes is almost unheard of at college. Usually people take 4-5 per regular semester (I took 6 in Spring 08 with 18 credits and it was absolute hell). You're probably overconfident like I was after my Fall 07 semester but I would recommend you ease up on your first semester schedule - you'll have more time for things besides school and have a much better Fall semester.

you're allowed to take ECON201?

E201 does not have a prerequisite.

the pro side to this schedule is that you will have a very easy schedule spring semester.. when bball season kicks in

My first semester I took A100, E201, K204, M118, and two other courses that were not stressful or complicated on top of all that. It was easily manageable. It taught me valuable time management skills that allowed me to excel my second semester. Although there is a risk that you may fall in over your head by taking too many difficult classes, I think the same can be said about taking too many easy classes. This situation could instill a philosophy of partying six nights a week and you will not be ready for harder classes. I think your schedule is fine the way it is. It is certainly challenging; but then again that is what college is meant to do.

LOL, I had to laugh a bit at the "taking 7 classes is almost unheard of" considering my schedule last semester (28 credits).

I agree, I took A100, K201, E201, and M118 all my first semester freshman year (a product of "great" advising). Granted, my GPA wasn't great, but I didn't find myself doing too much work where I didn't have a social life and still got a solid GPA.

I don't think M118 is that difficult (granted I'm OK at math), I went to the class only for the exams. The Webwork is annoying, but not too much stuff to do. There's so much help available for this class that if you don't get a B, the blame falls on you.

E201 has the CL sessions which are helpful and get you extra points - I would recommend strongly not taking Olson or Self if you can for E201, classes are with boring professors in large lecture halls who have difficult exams.

A100 is A100, if you have accounting background it will be a breeze, if this is your first accounting class you have to put a lot of work into it.

K201 is a lot of work, lots of learning of concepts on your own, assignments and "knowledge checks".

I consider your schedule too tough, but only you know for sure. I'd replace K201 with another course (still take 7, just not 4 tough ones at the same time). Other than that it looks fine.

What about W-350? ratemyprofessor.com reviews indicated my instructor Dana something... was excellent. However, I'm somewhat nervous about "advanced expository writing." How 'tough' will it be?

Seven classes is busy but I did it last semester as well as working 16 hrs a week. If you are extremely responsible and know how to schedule you will do fine. I also wasn't in any business courses so that would change things a bit

i had that same schedule except instead of the writing/music/collins class; i took ancient greek culture and an honors seminar. I will tell you that it was no walk in the park, but it was doable. And i thank myself everyday that i got all of those hard prereqs out of the way. you will do fine. the writing class might be a little much though.
