DEFINITELY call! Remember that maximum 30 day period to sign up for SSA? You're, what...12 days into yours? Even out of state kids get "automatic" scholarships. Look at their webpages.

http://www.scholarships.indiana.edu/index.php

With your stats, your AUTOMATIC scholarship is $9,000 per year just to start. And there is "lots more where that came from" (including the Hutton Honors College you all are discussing). Valedictorian? National Merit Finalist? They all offer scholarship money.

You earned this money with your grades. Don't let it slip away just because of a snafu. If you got your packet, but it does not speak to scholarships...DEFINITELY call. I myself didn't know it was to be sent with the admission packet, so I'm glad I looked on here to see that is how they're received. I thought they'd come later. Call the office of scholarships directly (avoid the middle man, admissions is BUSY right now). Gosh...even we who call ourselves "hospitable hoosiers" wouldn't think it was "not nice" to call about this.

It came in email - they said I will receive a letter and package soon. I submitted my app in August but sent my scores and transcript last week!

3.97 GPA and 1360/1600 or 1980/2400 SAT. I think that's all they based it on because I didn't send a statement or my EC's.

R12, I'll call on Monday if I don't get anything today or tomorrow.

Do you think this may be because I have a discipline record? (I got suspended for a day in my junior year) I'm not sure if that shows up on the transcript, but if it does, does it DQ me from the scholarships, regardless of their automatic-ness?

im not sure if many people would know the answer to that question, but you should definitely call and find out. it wouldn't make sense for them to admit you to the university and then decide to suspend your scholarship money just because of a discipline issue. im betting 90% that they made a mistake on yours.

an even more important reason to call: you already committed to the university! take what you can from them! (your stats show they will give you a lot!)

Thanks!! I applied on 9/23/09-so I am shocked to hear back so soon! I applied on 8/31/09 to MSU and Purdue and 9/1/09 to UW and Minnesota. Still no word from any of them!

is it necessary to send essays and recs? also how long does it take on average for them to give a decision?

ilovefhf:

The application does not have essays or recs. My D didn't send any. Seems like it's taking as little as 2-3 weeks, but they are also probably VERY busy right now so I would not expect that quick a response at this point. BUT...if you have ANY hint you'll qualify for scholarships, they prefer to receive your application prior to November 1! So get crackin'! They will CONSIDER you for scholarships after that date, provided there are funds left. You can look at their scholarship page to see if you qualify for their "automatic" scholarships. If you also qualify to apply for Selective Scholarships - they will advise you of that along with your acceptance letter and you have 30 days to complete another, more thorough application that does require (3?) essay questions, plus (2) recs.
