AP Credit

Does IUB not have any equivalent class to a good score on the English: Language and Compostition AP exam? There's nothing listed on the UD site: Advanced Placement (AP)
Or is it the same class as the English: Composition and Literature AP exam? If they don't then why did they fill in the score you needed? ( which is 4-5)

There are no three-credit classes you can get credit for. A 4 or 5 exempts you from taking W131.

Also, you can get two credits for ENG W143 with that score and a 660+ on the SAT writing test:
-----------------
English Composition

1. Exemption without credit. Students scoring 670 or higher on the SAT Critical Reading test, or 32 or above on the ACT English Composition section, or 4 to 5 on the Advanced Placement English Composition section, are exempt from English composition.
2. Exemption with credit. Some students have an opportunity to receive College of Arts and Sciences credit. A student will be granted 2 credit hours of English W143 if the student has:
1. a score of 670 or above on the SAT Critical Reading test, or 32 or above on the ACT English Composition section, or 4 to 5 on the Advanced Placement English Composition section, plus
2. a score of 660 or higher on the SAT Writing Test, and if the student applies to the Department of English in Ballantine Hall 442. Students should also see "Special Note" under "Credit by Examination" in the Undergraduate Academic Bulletin.

College of Arts and Sciences: Undergraduates

You have to contact the Department of English to get the two credits.

I read that if you get 4 or 5 on the AP English Composition & Literature, you get credit for ENG-L 198 and three credits...

It is AP English Language & Comp that won't help you get credit, unless you get a 4-5 on it, PLUS a score of 660 or higher on the SAT writing section and you request the credits.

At least, that's how I read it.

Thanks. That helps. But I was wondering, why such the big difference? The 2 AP English tests are almost exactly alike. The only difference is what you write about.

All,

Does IU offer credits for qualified AP courses(scores 4/5 in most cases) free of charge? Thanks

IU will not charge you for credits earned through AP exams.

I got one more question. Would transcript show that the credits were from a high school AP course? Thanks

^^^ I checked my son's UNofficial transcript on Onestart and it does not list AP as being the source of the course credit. It just lists the equivalent IU course and the # of credits under a section about tests credits.

snake, when you signed up for the test you had the opportunity to list IU as a school to which you wanted your score sent. If you did that, the College Board will send the score automatically.

If you didn't list IU, you will need to order the score to be sent. Here's the link with directions:
AP Scores - AP Scores & Reporting Services

The cost is $15 for regular service and $25 for rush orders.
