You guys should be pretty happy. When you apply to Non-need blind universities expecting a FULL ride. You generally get rejected. If you get deffered means they really like you and want to compare you with the RD people becuase they have limited fin aid for internationals.

most probably the need-aware univs defer international asking fin aid such that they compare all the applicants of the pool as their offers are limited. till date i have not heard any applicants getting rejected from ED coz they asked for aid. have you?

oh yeah I'm sure asking for financial aid definitely affects yourt chances as an international. The school may not declare that as a reason- doesn't make them look good- but yes needing FA affects your chances.
Ofcourse some schools like Cornell doesn't allow international EDers to ask for FA, which is better for the integrity of their school. Atleast they don't keep you in dark. Or say one thing and mean the other!

i dont know about other schools but I think for JHU, Upenn, Cornell international ED applicants are automatically put into the regular pool for consideration.

anyways, so what are your RD choices?
