This is not a CHANCES thread.
I just want to know the level of difficulty of the colleges I applied to.
I know that it is not as difficult to get into a LAC as it is to say HYPMS, but I really can't figure out how difficult it is.
So just how competitive are the colleges (in general) I listed below?
and how hard is it to get into these colleges with financial aid (say EFC = $10,000) ?
If you know the average SAT scores/GPA/rank of accepted international students that would be even better.

It might be a little easier than HYPSM. Most of the difficulty comes from needing financial aid. Look on this site:

It has % internationals accepted at each school.

But it's the lastest information you will get.
As for Colby, the site says that 862 intl students applied and 124 were accepted (about 14%) in 2004. ColbyAdmissions said that recently about 1000 intl students applied and about 20% of them were accepted.

yeah I know the acceptance rates/percentages but that doesn't really tell me much about the difficulty.
What I really want to know is, out of the 862 who applied, how many were auto-admits, how many were "hover" students and how many were auto-rejects.
With the international pool as it is now, I really can't understand a thing about the selectivity, because tons of people who have no chance at some colleges apply just for the heck of applying.
At the same time, there is the second group which considers these LACs as their "safeties" because they know that they have a 90% chance of admission in better colleges.

For the second list are you ranking by general competitiveness or by difficulty of getting accepted with aid?
And I have one more question.
I know that the students who get into colleges like Carleton with aid generally have really great stats (great grades, 1500+/1600 SATs etc. etc.)
But do you know the stats of international students who are accepted into colleges you ranked lower in the list (like Dickinson, Bard etc.) ?
Or what kind of stats would place you in the top of the pool if you applied to such colleges?

Grinnell is very picky...apparently they want me to submit TOEFL scores, even though I scored 800 for CR and 780 for W, speak English as my first language, and have been educated in English for the past year. TOEFL is bloody expensive...there's no way I'm sitting for it. And I applied already as well! Thank God applying is free if done online...so I only wasted my money on sending them my SAT scores.

@ johnlee -- huh? Grinnell waived my TOEFL. I scored a 750 for CR and 720 for W. ......
(well I did study in an English-medium school for the past 12 years.......)

I know that people get in to places like Dickinson with a 2000 sat with aid .. but there are people who get rejected with such and even higher scores.

Williams and Amherst are no less competitive than HYP-for int'ls-. Williams for instance takes 26 int'ls per year; HYP takes 100 and almost everyone who applies to HYP applies to williams- less who aren't able to comprehend liberal arts properly.

Yeah I know that Williams and Amherst are uber-competitive.
Any thoughts on the colleges I posted?

@ waleed -- yeah I think Dickinson is smart enough to filter out those who consider it a "safety" school or keep it as their last resort.
(I, on the other hand, really like the college. Especially from what I've heard from my high-school senior(who is studying there), Dickinson is really good and I wouldn't have any regrets if I were to go to Dickinson)

They are competitive but paying $1000 would really boost your chances.
