OK, lets see how smart you are
In the MUN I am organizing, one of the potential topics for the Security Council is the Reformation of the Security Council.

Do you think it is realistic, why and most importantly how?
My conviction is:
it cannot be done. The security council would obviously not want an influx of members that would underpin the major states, so they would veto any resolution. Also, no other GA has the power to reform the SC apart from the SC itself. And suppose it could happen, would it be realistic, let alone efficient?
The countries of the SC have troops at their disposal to use for peacekeeping. Would other countries with no troops to offer be able to tell the others what to do with them, especially since they don't contribute in the SC? I know it is dominated by UK, US, Russia, China etc, but still, is there any other feasible formation??

So, what do u think internationals?

Yes, the Security Council MUST be reformed! While it's reasonable that the founding nations have had some privileges in the past, if the United Nations Organisation doesn't want to lose both its credibility and its influence, the veto right MUST be abolished.

For the sake of general agreement, I don't resent the permanent status of the five powers but the veto right impedes tremendously the UN's room for maneuver:
The USA would never agree to resolutions against Israel, China (a nation which maintains to practice torture and suppression of free speech; not to mention its role in Tibet) would never accept any action against its red friend North Korea, Russia would never support measures restraining Iran in its nuclear power game, etc. etc.

There is no single reason why a member of the UN, an organisation which strives to promote global DEMOCRACY, should have privileges like the veto right in the organisation's most important institution, the Security Council.

That;s nice and all, but HOW??
There is absolutely no rational way of reforming the SC.

sorry i didn't read the "prompt" and i noticed that i didn't adress the problem at all. frankly, i've no idea how to reform the SC but more important I don't have time to think about it right now ;p
