My waitlist colleges are Middlebury, Carleton, Colorado, and Kalamazoo(financial). I have sent replies and updates to only the former two. I don't think there is much chance from the waitlists though :=(

I have also applied to University of New Orleans. The decision might come anytime this week.

If I'm accepted, it means that I'll have to choose between JUB and UNO..........

@ rot_drache: The question is are you willing to take the burden of loan? Are you sure of what you want to do 10 years down the lane? Are you ready to study in a country, where you can not communicate properly because of language problem? If you instinctively answered 'yes' to these questions, JUB is the best for you.

I have also applied in round 3 at JUB. But, I am sure that I will not attend JUB. As of today, I m going to UNO unless Middlebury accepts me. I have reasons for JUB:

I don't want to be tied down with loads of loan when I complete my undergrad. After I finish my undergrad, I want to take a break of 1-2 years, go through different aspects of llife, travel...this is not possible if I have to work my a$s off to pay the loans. Plus, JUB adds interest from the day it provides the loan at a whopping rate of 7.5-7.75 %. This is quite a pain.

Next, I want to search all the academic discipline before I committ myself to a particular field. In Nepal, we have studied science dominantly throughout our school and +2, so we don't have much information regarding other fields. I want to try and find if science is the 'career field' for me. For that, liberal arts education is the best. JUB doesn;t offer that diverse academic options as any college in the US would. Though, I admit, it is one of the best at what it offers.

Next, studying abroad doesn't only mean you are studying away from your home. It means gaining whole lotta experience in new places and environment, learning culture and enriching yourself. And with German as the language medium, I don't think I'll be able to adapt and learn much from my 3 years at Germany.

Making life decisions are always difficult. The college decision being the major and the first in our teenage life, makes it even harder. Consider every point before you committ. Before I was in at UNO, I used to think how would I pay around 9-12000 $ in other colls I was accepted in. Yeah, I was miserable just thinking about the money. But now, I feel real good and confident.

Ok they pile loans, but look at the family contribution that u have to pay while u are studying at jacobs much less compared to any LACs. So why worry about paying the loans now. Aren't we confident on ourselves that when we graduate from IUB in 3 years we will be able to carry away the loans. you need to believe in urself more than anything. Moreover study well get good grades and convert the loan in grants apply for various scholarships that eramus and other provides for foreign student studying in german universities.

IUB offers two major disciplines schol of sciences and school of social scienes
a single major will incorpaorate courses that is equivalent to double major . you have a year to finalize ur major...so no worries there as well.

jacobs offers language courses and they are not optional u need to take language courses to graduate and earn certain credits as a compulsion so lear german there. here we have people studying german in Goethe taking three level of course they call it the (ZD) level...and after this they will be studying their bachelor or masters in German. 2 semester of language courses cannot harm u moreover during the semester u are occupied inside the college so much u will have time for nothing. After knowing german there is no problem to explore anything and change ur view so as to know the culture u need to expertise in the language spoken there. And lastly German is an interesting language learning deutch is so much FUN!!

I know that believing oneself is the only key to success. But, I also always consider every aspect before making a decision. In my post, I never meant to say that I won't be able to pay my loans off nor have I mentioned that I don't have confidence in myself. I just illustrated that I'll need a year or two to pay the loans. If I am given 5500 euro loan per year, than it will amount to 16500 euro after three years. Add, the interests, it'll be atound 20000 euro before I graduate. Don't you think 20000 euro is a huge amount of money to pay by an undergrad. Plus, you'll spend money for your accomodation during jobs. It'll tie me financially. And, the living in Germany or any where in Europe is high, so u can't expect to pay the loans in 1 year. And, yes, interests also add up. It is a personal opinion, and I don;t want to concentrate on paying my loans after I graduate. There'll be lots of chances and oppurtunities, and working to pay loans is not my ideal choice. Also, I have considered that I can't be expecting much income (if at all) by working during summers.

And, yes, IUB offers some best programs in both sciences and social sciences. But, compare the major and course possiblities to that of a US college/university. There are no philosophy, international studies and other programs at IUB. I just meant that the range of subjects is small in IUB. having 1 year to choose a major and 2 years to do the same sure is quite different. You have 8 more months to find the field that most interests you. IUB is particularly for those who are sure what they wanna study.

yes, JUB does offer language programs. But, I can't imagine myself going to a country planning to learn the language there. And, there is not more than 2 months for us to take a languiage course in Nepal. Yes, I'll definetely learn German in JUB but will 1 year of introductory German in JUB perepare me enough for gathering load of experiences. If it does, it'll be awesome. If not, well questions arise. Compared to that, I'll enrich myself lot better in US in next four years.

I acknowledge and appreciate your confidence in deciding to study at Jacobs. I also believe that you guys will be great at Jacobs. My main question is: When you imagine your next 3 or 4 years at a particular university, how do you feel? If you can't wait to go there and if you believe it'll be the best thing in your life, sure go ahead. But, when I think my undergrad years at Jacobs, I feel uncertain. And, uncertaintity is the last thing I want to begin my college life with.
