| Ivy League rejections
actually wht does it take for an internationl to get into an ivy league?...i had a sat I score of 1530...great highi school record and EC's....reccommendations were good i thot the essays were fine....but i got rejected from HYP, Duke williams, carleton....i'm trying to figure out wht went wrong....can anyone tell me wht u did tht go u in... wht sort of essays and stuff like tht....
i'm going to mount holyoke this fall and happy abt it....but i'd still like to know why i got all those rejections... |

| 1580 here, likewise stats with you ishin...waitlisted at Harvard after a kick -ass interview (the interviewer told me afterwards it was the best this year), rejected by Princeton, Dartmouth (did not apply to other Ivies), Williams. I got lucky with Amherst, though  . I can provide some stats for Romania, in regards to Harvard admission:
100 people applied, 17 selected for interview, 4 waitlisted, 2 accepted. That is a selectivity of 2%, whereas the average RD selectivity is 8%(for what I know).
On the other hand, everyone should be aware that Ivy league does NOT equal success. I think it is very important that we had the guts to try. | |

| we are intels....... since many many of the applicants are superb and they have limited palces for us, it is like uber competitive....to us, looking at our frenz n schoolmates, our ecs n stats might seem grt but u nvr know wat the fella from another country might have to offer....... | |

| I apply to the same ivies as bogororo. Rejected at Harvard and Princeton. Accepted into Dartmouth. Also got into Stanford and Caltech.
For Chinese, maybe 500 students apply to Harvard. In the end, 4 students from Shanghai get in (a record high), and one Suzhou boy gets in.
I don't know why so many LACs reject me! | |

| depends if u were asking for aid or not...
as much as they claim to be "need blind", their not. it definately helps if you are paying ful freight. think about it- woul;d a university choose someone who's dirt poor but with a 1500 SAT score, or someone who's incredibly rich with a 1400 score but who is much much more likely to donate money to the college?
at the end of the day university's are business's and they look for their own interests as well... | |

| i was a 1510 rejected at harvard (8 in country selected for interview), yale, brown and stanford (ok so it's not ivy  ). however i think it a\may have been my SAT II scores, they weren't very competitive at 800writing/640math2c/620world history. who knows? well im headed for berkeley and am thrilled since i thought i would be rejected there. :P | |

| hmm, i agree with the others. it actually depends a lot on the competition form your country, from your fin aid status (whether you're applying for aid or not), and most of all it depends on your luck...
I, personally, turned out very lucky and was admitted to 5 ivies, and rejected at schools like Franklin&Marshall. I had an absolutely kick-ass interview with Brown, and got rejected. My Harvard interview was nice, but nothing special-I was accepted... go figure!!!
One thing to remember is that this whole admission process does not make any sense at all. So don't try to comprehend it. | |

| hey Ishin! in short, i would summarize my reply to "luck"
call it chance, fate, randomness, or whatever, but the choice for Ivies (and other top unis/LACs) is just as tough as can be our reception of the admission decision
as pointed out, there's a great number of internationals competing for very few places. imagine how hard it would be if you had to pick one among 20 great students, all with highly impressive achievements and scores.
btw, I'm going to Amherst, so we're headed for very close destinations and I know another Bangladeshi who's going too | |

my scores were solid, but not exceptional. I took a gap year, and did some really exciting things during it. In the end, I beleive that not my scores, although they were in the high 1400s, but my ECs, essays ( I spent 5 months on them), and recs (they were awesome) got me in. | |
