International Students- How much F.A. did you get from your school & how?

So, I've wanted to start this thread for quite some time. I applied to schools last year that were reportedly generous with F.A. for Int'l students. These colleges also had pretty large populations of International students. I was eventually waitlisted at all of them, and applied on a rolling basis to a school with an 8% Int'l population. They reported that they only gave $10,000 per year to Int'ls, but I decided to apply anyways. I was accepted with the full 10K scholarship, and I was delighted. However, after reading a few posts on here, I decided to see if the college were willing to offer me more... They promptly gave me an extra $3,000, and told me it was the biggest award they had ever given an international student. So, I was pretty happy, and applied for a bank loan to pay the rest. Then I arrived at the school... I am currently the only overseas student on campus. The only international students they have ever had here were exchange students. Within a month of arriving here, I got a letter in my mailbox stating that they were taking that $3000 scholarship off me and replacing it with one for just over $7,000 which means I'm now on just over $17,000.

I guess I'm just starting this thread so that people know they have options. If you don't get in HYP or to another top ranked LAC, consider a small school with rolling admissions.

Does anyone else have a similar story they would like to share? I'm sure some prospective students would appreciate the advice!

I am delighted to hear that everything worked out for you. Congratulations!

Thank you for sharing your story with us. Would you mind sharing which college you are now attending?

Just to note, it's only $17,000, so it must be a public school! Then why not applying to the University of New Orleans! Its Honors Program is some of the most prestigious in Louisiana and reportedly 50-60 graduates get accepted to top national universities, such as Harvard and Stanford upon their graduation from UNO. I am an international student from Europe, with full scholarship of 18,500 per year - tuition, room and board + $500 for books! No loans. Looking forward to seeing you on campus! ^_-

The net cost for studying at New Orleans (non-residents) seems to be: 16,104$
Fast Facts
