Well, I guess I can give some opinions on the location since I live in HK
HKUST is quite far from the city center, and HKU isn't really that convenient as well since there isn't a MTR station(underground railway system in HK). The only way to get to HKU is by bus. But if you're planning to live on campus, the location of HKU is definitely better |

@Ahtesham Judging by the previous comments, I've read people stating that they've received upto 100% scholarship from HKUST. Does CUHK give out scholarships?

@Whostolemycookie I thought living at UST would be more scenic. How do HKU, UST & CUHK compare to each other when it comes to international (non-local, non-mainland) student diversity and populace.

Hello. I am an ECE undergraduate in my final year at the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and I would be graduating by September 2013. In spite of this, I still want to apply to HKUST (I have started filling the online application), so that I can resume for the 2013-2014 session, and I hope to transfer credits, in order that I may finish in two years. I really want to come to HKUST because of the nice research opportunities for undergrads which is not available in Nigeria(we hardly do any research here, and we basically cram our way through-no insults intended). Do you guys think that its worth it to apply since I would soon be done? What are my chances of entry as I am one of the top students in my class(though with a couple of bad grades), a great recommendation letter, and also with leadership experiences. lastly, would I get any form of scholarships as the tuition is high, compared to what we can afford in Nigeria. Thanks, and sorry for the length

@theasiansadness Yep, the extracurricular activities.
@Ababio You should probably email them regarding your concern. Regarding the scholarships, I'm pretty sure they give out scholarships but they tend to be competitive.

@thenderboltsid Thanks, I just mailed them and they asked me to carry on. I am just worried about d bad grades and the fact that I dont think I can go if I dont get a full scholarship coz its unaffordable. Any advise?

@thunderboltsid My ECs include table tennis (state champion for 4 years), serving at church for 3 years, key club (4 years and over 100 hours of service), business manager of school newspaper. What about you?
@Ababio I highly support you to study in HK. Ababio, to be honest with you, my knowledge of Nigeria as a whole is very insufficient. However, I truly believe by studying in HK, on of the biggest cities in the world, you can definitely widen your view. Especially if you study well and finds a job in HK, thats even better! I mean...not all African college students have that chance! I am sure the HK admission officers value variability....and I am guessing you don't have too many friends applying for hk universities? Just give it a try and see how it goes. In terms of tuition, I am not sure how much you can afford, but most of them are at around 5500 US dollars a year, plus you can apply for scholarships. Good luck!

@Ababio Not exactly, But as the universities want diversity on campus, they may happen to take the only applicant from Nigeria regardless of "Not-So-Awesome" grades.
@theasiansadnes Whoa! that's sounds awesome. I don't have much in the extra curricular activities, I've won a couple of National IT quizzes and Science quizzes in India, placed second or third on others I've participated. First prize in a National level Website Designing competition, over 350 hours of social service(Educating the financially deprived with a couple of NGOs), First prize in a national science exhibit, There are a few others which are more of school/personal projects which can't be mentioned as an achievement i.e Creating a couple of robots, Creating my own startup, etc.. Not much on the sports end and that seriously bothers me. Do you think having only Academic ECs will impact my application negatively.
