Which school is better and why in your opinion? im thinking of applying to HKUST, already applied to HKU. HKU is better location wise as its closer to the big city shopping part of HK, but HKUST might be better academic wise? i have no idea really...Anyone with knowledged of either school? Im applying for bachelor of science degree.

I like HKUST more. Its got more funding, newer campus, beautiful campus and it is very famous for science. Apply for both, the HKUST application is fairly simple.

Yayy..I also applied to HKUST, and yes their application is quite easy.
Academics wise, both are almost the same, but i'd say HKU edges it. Anyone else applied. When are you expecting the decisions?

im going to finish up my app today for HKUST then. But, what are the supporting documents needed besides transcript and copy of passport? anything?

khan91, why would you say HKU edges it? just curious, i hear mixed things all the time, some say HKUST is better, some say HKU. im expecting desicions april-may-ish, if i dont hear from them ill have to call them up, because schools here require you declare them by May 1st.

ysbera, do you attend HKUST? how far from the city of Hong Kong is it?

michelleger, HKU edges it because it has a fairly large campus and more resources. It's ahead in the rankings and we even had an HKUST adcom at our school and i had the temerity to ask him that :D and he had the honesty to tell me that technology wise HKU 'ever-so-slightly' edges it.

Oh and HKUST is about half an hour from the city center.

I heard HKUST is suffering a huge endowment decline.

Have you considered City U of HK? I've been to their recruiting event and it seemed very decent. I'm not sure about technology though

Nothing could be farther from the truth. HKUST has just started it's most intensive 'applicant scouting' program. They're handing out scholarships like toffee! At least for international students they are.

really?? is that with the swire's program thing or the school? because they have some swire scholarship thing, i was going to do it, but i have to finish the 2 essays today then...*Sigh*. unless the scholarships youre talking about are the automatic ones they screen for.
  • khan91khan91 Posts: 448Registered User Member
It's only the swire scholarships that you have to apply for, the rest you're automatically considered.
And if your application's really good, and you havent applied for the Swire thing, HKUST themself ask you to apply

I think HKU still remains the top for Hong Kong Universities.
The prestige, history, standard of acceptances, international students (%), intl profs.. etc etc edges HKUST.
But UST is catching up real quick, esp its EMBA is ranked top 20 worldwide.
Chinese Uni is probably slightly better than UST in terms of ranking.
    HKU > CUHK > HKUST - top 3 i believe.
  • michellegermichelleger Posts: 156Registered User Junior Member
yea the thing is, HKUST had caught up FAST. it was founded in 1991, no? and yea HKU probably had better facilities right now, but i hear HKUST education is extremely competitive and rigorous, esp since they accept many mainlanders who tend to be very diligent and conscientious. and yea ust is ranked high for MBA

    a little correction @ michelleger
i think you meant EMBA instead of MBA for HKUST*

Nice to meet you everyone. Does anyone of you apply for the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)? I found the undergraduate admission a little strange as one of the requirements to apply is you must have attended a university recognized by CUHK for at least 2 semesters. Does anyone have any details or information regarding this?
  • TheGrandTheGrand Posts: 311Registered User Member
    Hi Donutz,
I don't really know much about CUHK, but are you sure you are looking at the correction section for Prospective Students instead of Transfer student. Because studying for 2 semester in another University sounds like its for Transfers.
