Look at this and tell me what you think!

OK, here's my SAT score:

Math 680
Verbal 580
Writing 580

I knwo it's not good enough to get into Invy League (obviously), but what universities would you recommend me to try?

Addition Info:

I have not taken the SAT 2 tests
I would like start college in the spring semester
If I apply, I'll be an international student - is there any financial aids available?

My current situation:

I've been in NZ for almost three years (from China), and mixed in well. I was elected as deputy head boy beginning of this year. My high school in the biggest in the country (3000 students). I am also the Chairman of the international committee, which deals with international students, and organise events for students, promoting and celebrating cultural differences.

I am also invloved in music, choirs, barbershop.
Sports: running, badminton.

And I'm going to be a youth coucillor of the Auckland Youth Coucil.

I have a very open personality, enjoys meeting new people and making new friends.

My desired field of study: Commerce (BS economics, BA economics, Accounting)

So yeah, that's me...

Please recommend me some suitable universities for me to apply. As I said earlier, I have never been to the US, so I don't know much about the universities. Your help would be very much appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

It depends on how much you are able to pay. Take a look at Ohio Wesleyan University, for instance, where you could go with paying as little as $10,000 per year. There are lots of other institutions but this one is the first that comes to my mind.

By the way, I'm sure you know this, but let me remind you of the option of applying for the fall semester 2006. You have more time to prepare - perhaps to increase the SAT score and there are comparatively few schools accepting apps for the spring semester, especially from international students requesting FinAid, because their aid budget for next academic year is largely gone by now.

First thank you for your reply!

I don't NEED the finaid, but it would be nice!

I've applied for UT Austin, A&M, UT Dallas. (they don't require SAT 2)

The reason why I apply for spring is because if I apply for fall, I'll have half a year of doing nothing! If, for instance, I don't get accepted in fall, I'll have to study in Australia, in which universities are already through their half-year!

If you don't need to apply for finaid, I highly suggest that you don't. It's a big big big negative factor if you do.

I don't think it's that big of a deal if you have half a year of nothing to do... that's what i'm planning to do lol jan-aug: pure nothing.

You could try university of rochester which is a fairly good uni. And maybe Vanderbilt university if you like the south. Are you looking for privates? publics? prestige? urban location? Give us some more info!

I also really think it's a good idea to apply for fall and also take SAT 2s.

{p.s do you attend rangitoto college?}

Omg!!

HOLY CRAP! you are freaking me out lol! HOW DO U KNOW I'M FROM RANGITOTO COLLEGE??

Anyway, the thing is...I don't want to be in a situation, where I don't have a visa to the US, and Australia's already started!

Hmmm mayb I can take SAT2 while I'm in the US, and transfer to a better college later!

Ohio Wesleyan University like bogororo suggested may be a good match for you given your stats. Your scores are a little low for them given the fact that you are an international but since you may not require aid your scores most likely will get you an admission there. The best way to apply is online since they have been pretty agressive about increasing the number of applicants for the past two years in effort to keep up with Kenyon, Oberlin and Denison and they waive the application fee ONLY if you apply online. The other thing is, Wesleyan is pretty diverse in terms of international students...perhaps the most diverse LAC for international students after Mount Holyoke, so you may like that. Finally, their strength in terms of economics is business economics, which is what you indicate you have an interest in studying. Best of luck.

Thanks Stud! I've just submitted part one of the application for University of Rochester, their application was free because I applied online! I was wondering why it was free! thanks for your insightful answer!

In turns of diverse in terms of international students...well, I don't really mind! I'm used to mix with any people!
