Volunteering abroad over the summer

I was looking for organizations that have high school students volunteer outside U.S. over the summer. But, most of them cost around $4,000. I was thinking that since we are volunteering and not vacationing, we can have food and a place to stay for free. Four grand is just too much for me to pay. I was hoping that I can just pay for the flight tickets. Is there any organization that have students volunteer with food and housing for free?

One of my friend volunteered at an aids hosptial in ShenZhen China in return for housing and food.

Also, I have known a few others who privately contacted missionaries in Africa through their local churches.

Anything maybe in Brazil, especially Rio de Janierio (sp?).

Something that is cheap, but it will volunteer work, so I'm hoping for nearly free.

I wish us Americans could go to Cuba, that would be cool.
