our son was already offered a full time job toward the end of his internship, he got 3 recommendation letters, 14 co-workers took him out to lunch his last day and the head of his department out for drinks that evening. I guess he made a favorible impression.

Yep, some follow up would be good.

My son is going to send golf balls from his university (with a handwritten note of appreciation), since both of his bosses are golfers. Congratulations, Originaloog on your son's offer of employment.

Congratulations from me too! I thought for sure it was an investment banking job, but when I searched your posts, I saw that it was computer science! You must have a very special kid! I imagine he is attending a strong computer science school?
