Sales and Trading is definitely the hardest program. Think about, everyone wants those jobs because of the prestige associated with it. When people say investment bankers, they usually mean sales and trading even though they are different.

From my personal experience, any career field that is the most talked about area of finance will be very hard to get. In contrast, a different area of finance that's talked about the least will not be as difficult to obtain. Always go into a field that is not overcrowded.

The same can also be applied to college majors as well. The programs that has the largest enrollment such as Engineering, Business/Economics, Political Science/Law, and Biological Sciences/Pre-Med, will be extremely competitive in terms of grading and flexibility. Personally, I would rather avoid those areas and focus on a related major, like Economic Sociology at a top tier college that has fewer students enrolled as a major, in comparison to the biggest majors that I had mentioned.

No email to schedule a phone interview yet, but I'm fairly confident that is easy to get. Getting to the second round interview and doing well there is ridiculously tough.

interview

hey guys,
its like been a while since ive submitted my application but theres been absolutely no indication of a phone screen interview or anything of that sort....so i'm wondering if that's a reject? its going to be pretty retarded if they reject me because i was actually extended an offer from their partner firms like goldman sachs and UBS

I doubt it. They probably just didn't get to your application yet before they were flooded with apps. on the deadline date.

I think undefined is kidding right? I'm pretty sure they don't start sending rejections/offers until much later...

Hi,

My friend informed me that he has already been contacted to sign up for a phone interview (roughly the day after he applied). I, however, have not received any word from SEO, except the electronic confirmation that they've received my resume. Does this mean that I won't get an interview? Is it because my GPA is only 3.5? Help! I'm getting a bit frustrated.

If it makes you feel better, I have a 4.0 gpa and I haven't been contacted yet. Could be because I'm a sophomore, unfortunately.
