| Had my in-person interview in NYC this Monday and got a request for a follow-up phone interview also. Seems like the recruitment process is different from last year's. Phone ---> in-person ---> phone. Anyone else with a similar experience? My next phone interview will be on this Friday.
ohyeah and shuava - sorry i'm a bit rushed right now and need to go. but i will write about my in-person interview experience soon on here |

| OK. here's my in person interview experience:
Got there 20 min before my interview. Pretty hard place to find (it's in an alley on wall street). Met with some other kids also interviewing that day in the waiting room. About 1/2 were interviewing for the HK position and 1/2 were interviewing for the NY position. Saw the sign up sheet and it seems like most people were from ivy schools so I guess the competition was tough. WSJ on the desk so I got myself updated on the current events and stock prices in Asia. Good thing my interview was on Monday because the market hasn't changed much from Friday.
Got called into a conference room when it was my turn. Had two people interviewing me: one was asking all the questions and the other one was just taking notes on the laptop. Passed my transcript and resumes to the interviewers. No ******** friendly chat just straight to business with the questions.
The first batch of questions were all about SEO (why do it? advantages? did I know any alumni, etc..) Then came the technical questions about IBD. Name 4 methods to valuate a company. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each method. When to use each method (pre IPO, M&A, second offering, etc). A few basic accounting questions about balance sheets, cash flow, and how they're related. Name a few ways to calculate depreciation. I'm a liberal arts major but luckily I took a few classes in basic accounting and finance so that helped. And thank God I got the VAULT guide to financial interviews cuz EVERYTHING was in that guide.
Then, the final round of questions were about the market conditions in Asia. I guess this is to see how interested I REALLY was in Asia. What's the growth rate? How much did Shanghai and HK close at Friday? Inflation rate? intereste rate? name some big IPOs and M&As of last year. Basically I told them everything I read in the WSJ in the past few weeks about China.
Then, time was up and the interview was over. Too bad there weren't any brainteasers or case questions because I had prepared a lot for those. O well. Said Goodbye and left.
Next morning, got an e-mail for the follow up phone interview with an alumni in HK. Very quick selection process I'm assuming.
My friend at school also had her interview on Tuesday in NYC and got a call that very night for a follow up phone interview. This confirms the quick selection process I guess.
Hopefully that helps. I'll tell you guys how my follow up phone interview went this weekend. I'm hoping this is the last round of interviews. Good luck! |

| O yeah. I was also quizzed on a little about my Chinese. But this is only if you're interviewing for HK of course.
What surprised me was that they didn't ask ANY questions about my resume. This is very different from a typical interview I guess...
But keep in mind that every interviewer is different. After my interview, I asked a person from the NY IB group how the interview went and he said they asked him about his resume and gave him a case to solve. Also, he said his interview was more of a conversation as opposed to mine, which was more like a question and answer session. So....be prepared for those too.

| Just had my interview for Corporate Finance. Two interviewers. Got asked for a summary of this month's events, what transactions I'm following, why corporate finance, what an intern in M&A does, what 13% of 170 is, why the sub-prime market crashed, and if I had any questions. It took about 20 minutes.
I found out that only S&T gets a second screening phone call. Results out at the end of January. Not holding my breath. |

| Who was your source in finding out that only S&T gets a second screening phone call? That gives me some hope, as I was absolutely dejected after reading about people who had passed the in-person interview and receiving followup calls while I wasn't. |

| I applied for asset mgmt and got a request for a follow-up call. my friends applying for IB have also gotten the calls, so it's not true that only S&T gets the 3rd interview. |

| For me (IB HK) the follow up was necessary because it consisted of a conference call with 3 SEO alumni that are working in HK right now. |
