UT-Austin ChE with a 2.6

I need help! I'm freaking out because my UT-GPA and my engineering GPA are 2.6. I'm a Junior and graduate in Summer 2009. I can change my GPA because I've only completed a years worth at UT. The rest is from a community college. What are my chances of having a low GPA right now but then doing pretty good on my last 3 semesters (around 3.5)?

I've also never had an internship. haven't gone to any career fair because of my low GPA.

Come on man, you know your chances directly relate to your ability and the additional effort you are willing to put into your work. Both of which we can't answer for you. You need to answer them for yourself.

Good luck.

Yeah, you're right. I think by Summer 08 I'll have my GPA up to a 3.0

It's still weird coz most of my classmates already have high-paying internships. I only feel assured that the reason I'm not doing well is 'coz I'm procrastinating. All my classes are graded on curves and theres a lot of competition amongst students. Its rated top 10 in Engineering so I hope that helps at least.

Do you think interviewers will notice my improvement if I've been doing really well in the last 2 years of college? or will they just look at my overall GPA?

they will look at your overall GPA and I think you should get at least 3.0 to even get in any kind of interview you already have a disadvantage of not having experience I think you should try applying to some research position...I am not being harsh but I would say your chances of getting in is like may be 10%

may be try to get some research jobs oncampus or try applying for coop which is easier to get in. good luck

You mean a 10% chance with a 2.6 overall or 10% with a 3.0 overall?

I interviewed students at UT couple of weeks ago. You are having too much of a 'pity party.' WOrk with what you have, dont hide from job fairs etc...The energy business is up and GEoscience, PETes but also Chem E are in demand. If you are able, get an internship.... make some calls to Houston and areas, and check around. MANY people want to help you out. YOu just dont know it. They had they same problems you did, and did fine. Here is one where someoen interned last summer.

the smaller, less known companies might be a good bet this year, due to inexperience and GPA.....
