Entertainment Industry Internships!!

I'm interested in the entertainment industry -- television or magazines preferably. I'd love to intern somewhere like E! News, MTV, or Seventeen magazine. Unfortunately, I know how extremely competitive these are to get into.

So... does anyone have any tips on securing a highly competitive internship (one similar to those mentioned)? Or, something that may be similar to what I mentioned but not as difficult to obtain?

Thanks in advance! :]

I think it's important to have some kind of internship experience in the entertainment industry before the big ones like MTV and Seventeen. I believe that they really look for individuals who have had prior experience, and not just high school students with participation in clubs and student council and what not. Don't expect to land a major internship just yet, try finding other work first, and you'll eventually get there. I'm pretty sure that people who land those huge internships are usually juniors and seniors in college, so you might have to wait a little.

Actually, I know students who are/were freshmen and sophomore college students who were able to secure entertainment industry internships, particularly in nyc and LA.

NYUjosh- I'm looking to for internships for this coming summer and I will have just finished my sophomore year. Since the internships I mentioned are so competitive, do you have any suggestions of other places to look that offer a similar experience?

nyumom- Would you happen to know how those students obtained the internships? I'd love any tips you could give!

Thanks for input!!

The students either obtained the internships through their college/university database - in my kids situation, it was Tisch, and also through recommendations through friends.
