Hi! Actually, I was a HS JUNIOR when I took on an internship in a local law firm. My school offered an internship program where they sent out contacts to local firms -- law, architecture, business, banking, research/finance, engineering, ect. I sent in three resumes and ended up with two job spots to choose from after a round of interviews.

Honestly, I think this is a great way to understand the corporate world. You get an inside look into what really happens and if you'd like the job - something you wouldn't get from riding a bike and hanging at the local mall.

So, my suggestion to you would to be contact, contact, contact. Search for local business's near you that interest you - and call them saying, "Hello, my name is ----, and I am interested in learning more about your company/ ---- career. May I talk to someone about possibly doing an internship/shadowing experience?"

You can also send out your resumes as well, with a cover letter and such to the HR department or company itself. I'd say your best bet is to contact the company and personally speak to them about what it is you are looking for and such. I know my company, which they told me on my exit interview, was actually worried about the responsibility/privacy issue with hiring a teenager -- but if you show the initiative and interest, they look upon you in a different light.

I say go for it -- contact a handful of company's and see what they say -- even if it's a volunteer internship - it's worth it. (A friend of mine did a volunteer one with a oral surgeon and went into operations with him....She loved it!)

Good luck!

I'm actually wondering the same thing as laxgurl - I'm an HS junior looking for an internship involving business/finance. Is there a site online perhaps that could shed some light on this matter? It'd be very interesting and fun - I suppose riding a bike/getting a job at the mall works too tho =D - that's a backup.

Thanks
