How to find a decent paying part-time job while being in college?

I live in Chicago suburbs and I found that most locations here in retail stores pay minimum wage, yuk. Here where I live are just only big chain retail stores, malls and big chain restaurants.

I work at Sears and get paid minimum wage and even my manager does not earn too much, cause he still lives with parents, which tells its difficult for him to save money to move out. He has worked there over 3 years.

In Illinois minimum wage is 8.50. Right now is summer and I got part-time position at retail. On average they give only 20-25 hours that pays you only $150-$200 per week after tax deductions. This fall I moving to dorms to live on-campus. (well financial aid - grants, student loans cover my college expenses , the money I earn barely for books or food). I hope to find some job that will pay more than that in the city. In city they pay little more on average than in suburbs don't they?

Besides I need so save money to be ready for next year to move into apartment next year. At least enough to buy furniture, pay deposit, bills and few months of rent

Financial aid from school might help but its might not enough and I do not wanna take too much student loans.

I am college junior and 21, its time for me to be able to live on my own. I consider to find an internship but right now there is no many of them this summer.

I will look for internship whole year, especially during fall career fair at my school and winter break. But right now... I got to find something quickly before that.
